Catch n release for me. Great little rifle but I have other rifles I'm going to concentrate on.
This is a very nice, low round count (around 400 rounds fired) Sako A II custom built by by Bob Jourdan (gunsmith and writer for Precision Shooting magazine)in 1993. Mr. Jourdan had a wonderful reputation for putting out real quality work, and was a huge advocate for ACKLEY chamberings as well.
Features: SAKO AII made in Finland action (virtually the same as 579 For ester) McMillan Black Varmint stock 24" Hart 1:12 twist, 24" stainless barrel with mini scroll finish (very cool imo .250 Savage Ackley Improved chamber Sako Optilock base set with 1" medium rings included Factory adjustable Sako trigger, very nice, around 2lbs and crisp. Weight of bare rifle is 9lbs, 1oz
Extras included 1. 50 pieces of R-P Brass, three firings, in good shape 2. Redding custom made bushing die set, uses S bushing, will come with the 279 bushing 3. 50pcs R-P 250 savage brass
The group pictured here was shot by previous owner with some of his reloads using Nosler silver tip bullets. He couldn't find the load data for these, but there is one unfired as an example that works pretty well.
"The group pictured was .595" for 5 shots at 100yds . I pulled the first shot, so I went for 5 after that at a different point of aim." - previous owner quote
The bolt face has a minor bit of etching around the primer edge, as shown in pic.
The rifle loads, fires, extracts and works perfect in all ways. No malfunctions or hang ups anywhere. It runs like a Sako should, but improved by Mr. Jourdan. Borescope shows very minor fire cracking or wear, matching the estimate on rounds fired.
$1500 split shipping (scope not included but can be for additional $$$ and will be listed separately if rifle sells)
I did not ever meet Bob but did talk to him over the phone. He was a super guy and very knowledgeable needless to say. Cool rifle but just a bit heavy for my tastes. GLWS
The 250 was one of Parker Ackley’s best. This improved cartridge performs very well with a page load of powders and does so accurately. My late Brother knew Parker and he reportedly claimed that the 257 AI was about perfect but the only thing that kept the 250 AI back was the rifles it was chambered in. Back then it was a lever action cartridge mostly.
