Funky 9 point with a muzzleloader in Virginia. T/C impact 250 gr Hornady sst over two 777 pellets . Range about 80 yards went through the heart and through the lower shoulder quartering away. Ran about 15 yards uphill then toppled over .

Unique for sure. Mustโ€™ve been damaged when in velvet or a genetic deformity?

Honestly not sure. I was expecting an injury when I got it skinned out but no visible injuries. Nice fat deer for this area

Weird rut. One place bucks are going nuts 10 miles down the road nothing. I've been watching small bucks harass does at work ( I 81 just south of the 240 exit ) for the last month. Been hunting Rockingham and Greene County. Rockingham they're chasing pretty good Greene County is just starting. Cousin killed this one in Madison the other day [Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]

I was told a long time ago if the deer has a messed up rack it was from an injury the year before. Not from when they were growing them.

I was expecting an injury when I skinned this one out. Nothing obvious though

Oddly enough, that usually indicates an injury (as noted from a previous year) to a leg on the opposite side. Pay attention while cutting it up. Witnessed an elk like this several years ago. Had a muzzleloader round ball encapsulated in cartilage on the opposite shoulder blade.

I have found broadheads and buckshot, bird shot, round balls, rifle bullets in deer over the years.

Just cut it up this morning with another doe I got. Nothing in the front shoulders or hams or neck.

Yup. I killed a buck with a freaky little rack in Clarke County in 2016. He had an expandable crossbow head and a short piece of the shaft embedded in his shoulder, actually poking through the off side from the previous year. Aside from the rack, he was fat and healthy, though it musta hurt like a bitch.
