Even though I haven’t been able to hunt for the last two years, on Saturday I’ll be holding out for a buck. I can also still hunt for black bear in my area.

I’m a handgun hunter, so I’ll be sitting in my spot with my deer slayer; 14” TC Contender in 7-30 Waters.

last year i didn't go because i was scheduled to do a Heart Cath surgery. my days of trekking into the woods are gone (had a bad stroke 11 years ago), but i have a Polaris Ranger 800 which will take me to the spot i hunt.

my dad (RIP) had a 14" muzzle brake in 7x30 Waters with 115gr Speer HP and IMR4895 that would kill deer. i have it now, but with 10" barrels in 30 and 357 Herrett. i should have done the 30 Herrett, but i didn't. the Contender will stay in the safe, but i have a TC Encore with a 23" MGM barrel in 444 Marlin with 280gr WFN GC and Reloder 7 to use the first day.

Anybody know of any in person big buck contest in Crawford county area? Community Chevy isn't hosting anything again this year. Never entered one personally but still like to see all the big ones come in

I haven't heard of one, but I never paid any attention to that sort of thing. I'll try to check.

Well I was torn on which rifle to carry Saturday. Looks like the 243 gets the nod. Haven’t killed a wall hanger with it yet. Actually only ever killed 1 buck with it but stack does up pretty well. That was the deciding factor… need to kill a good buck with Paps old 243.

All I saw was a doe, fawn and PA 11 point (spike). None of which I could shoot. That and lots of people. I know it’s opening day on state forest but I was surprised how many trucks rolled up the dead end rd this morning. Oh well. Tomorrow is a new day!

For me that reason is usually because I've made some bad decisions that I need to pay for.

i seen small 6pt and a little 8pt, but the one i wanted is a huge 8pt. i seen him 1st thing in morning and he ran. i/ve also seen about 14 or 15 doe and fawns. 10:30 am i got her using a TC Encore with a 23" MGM barrel in 444 Marlin and 280gr WFN GC over Reloder 7 going 1947fps. i shot her behind the shoulder, thru both lungs and bottom half of the heart, then i broke 2 ribs on the way out. she was 40ish yards away and she ran after the shout about 15 yards and then she died. there was alot of blood coming out of her. altho she ran about 15 yards, it was like a man with two ketchup bottles was going thru the woods and spraying ketchup on the ground and trees and brush.

Congrats, guys!
I hope to take my daughter out later today. We have 10-18" of snow predicted for the next couple of days.
