Hey all! Picked up a Rem 700 ML and it has the old a#11 percussion style primer breach plug and bolt assembly.
Wanting to convert it to 209. Can I still use the same bolt assembly/firing pin and just swap the breach plug or will I need to change out bolt parts. I know Badger Ridge has a whole setup, but if I can get away with just changing the breach plug and use the same bolt, I’d rather do that.
Thoughts??

Remington used to offer a 209 nipple but you'd have to change the firing pin/hammer also. The percussion hammer is flat and you'll need a point to set off a 209. A Badger Ridge type conversion is by far the best way to go, it will seal the breech and allow the use of Blackhorn 209. If you don't want to go that far, or use BH209, stick with the #11 percussion cap or musket.

I know the Badger Ridge is expensive but once you do it you’ll be glad you spent the money.

I have two Rem 700 ML's. One is a factory 54 cal, with a 209 primer. The second one was a 50 cal that was not cleaned and the bore rusted out. I had that one sent away to be rebored to a 54 cal. also 209 primer. Both guns are stainless and shoot well. The rebored rifle shots the best. The only thing I do not like about those rifles is the tupperwear stocks. Otherwise, they are solid guns.

IMHO - the Remington factory 209 set up is a PITA - the system has quite a bit of leakage / blow back around the primer, their system does not seal well IMLE.
Second, the 209 primers frequently stick in the "cage" on the breech plug, and need to be pried out - a second shot isn't happening.
Converting to the Badger system was the "easy button" and a great investment.
Th Arrowhead conversion is slightly cheaper, but you still need a 209 hammer and those are typically hard to find - and expensive when you do.

I installed the Arrowhead kit. It came with everything needed. Easy to install and works great.
