I’m setting up a 30-06 for game from coyotes to Roosevelt elk in the Pacific Northwest. Terrain, vegetation, and weather will vary. Most shots will be <250 yards but could go as far as 450. I’ve used a Nightforce SHV 3-10x42 for this so far. It works but it’s heavier than I like.

What’s out there that’s lighter, illuminated, and still repeatable?

Not all that much. Trijicon 3-9 accupoint would be my solution. Not really a dialing scope, per se. Most everything else will not yield much of a weight savings.

I was going to suggest the SHV 3-10 but the OP is already there. It's not super light, but it's not a tank either.

Other than the NF SHV or NXS 2-10, A Trijicon Credo or Accupoint are your only other decent options.

I’m pitting Trijicon accupoint TR25 1-6 German vs vx5hd 1-5 firedot vs Trijicon accupoint tr24 German over the next year to see. The holy grail does not yet exist for certain so you must gamble. I have a few Accupoint 3-9’s and feel they are one of the best hunting scopes period. If they make those with a cds-zl one day look out but I have a Kenton speed dial on mine and it has proven reliable and return to zero over several years of testing now but I’m far from a real tester, I just hunt. So I will scrutinize and test the larger 30mm turrets of the TR25/24 for tracking and return to zero as I hope to add Kenton speed dials to then also, I can say they feel very good compared to the 3-9, heavier to turn and solid clicks...so the bet on Trijicon should be as good as one can get, including for impact resistant and zero retention. The vx5 eyebox, glass, and firedot are amazing so it’s lottery is the tracking and zero retention apparently so that’s a gamble but it’s about 4.5 oz lighter than the TR25 and similar to the tr24. I am loving the TR25 German reticle though, the glass is amazing and eyebox nearly as good as Leupold. It will do the speed with the heavy bars and I was doing .6” groups at 100 no prob so the fine center and top glass at 6x will allow all the precision a guy needs. The illum dot starts to shine when peak hunting times come around. The tr24 supposed to be brighter and a bit thicker center but only 4x top end. From my research these three were my top contenders for a do all general purpose lpvo. I’m also doing a vx3 1.5-5 duplex but that’s not illuminated so not what you’re after.

my vortex razor lht 3-15x42 has been reliable and is light weight. 200 zero dial to 300, 550 and then 780 at the range I have. Been back and forth far to close and close to far a dozen times on a dozen trips and always on. Some show they are not great but mine has been.

I have 5 LHTs in 3.5-15x42 and they've all been 100-600 and back plenty and have been 100% reliable. Optics are excellent, illumination is very well done, and they're light.
