My father-in-law who passed in 2007 had an Old Forge safe which is a Liberty knock-off and uses the same S&G locks. I have the combination but we've never been able to find the keys for it. It's still in the basement at my mother-in-laws house and I'm thinking about having it re-keyed if it's not too costly. Anyone know what it costs to have this done? I called a local locksmith but he claims he needs to come out and see it to give me an estimate.

It cost me 225 to swap out an electronic lock with a regular dial lock on my Cannon a few weeks ago. That includes the price of the new lock.

The keyed lock on the tumbler is usually a cheap, and easily defeated one who's purpose is only to prevent the tumbler from rotating. Send a picture to a couple different locksmiths and get a quote to drill & replace it if you know the tumbler's combo. I don't think the whole dial needs to be replaced.

Take the lock out of the door and walk into a locksmith shop with it. They will either re-key it or sell you a new lock with keys to fit. The service call will be the big expense if you don't do a cash & carry transaction.

Just buy lock rake, with a day or two or practice you’ll be just as fast as a key.

I called Sargent & Greenleaf the maker of the lock. It turns out I can buy the key cylinder and a couple tools for around $50 and do it myself. They have some instructions online for the lock so I'm thinking I can get it done.

I think the keys were numbered, but not the locks. I have lost keys to a couple of mine.
