The Sunday evening before Thanksgiving, I was hunting on my lease south of San Antonio (low fence). My buddy and his 13yo son were there too. I saw a nice, mature 10pt that I/we hadn’t seen previously (I don’t use cameras but all the other guys do). After getting a good look at him, I waited for a broadside shot and put a 6.5 ELDX thru both lungs. I only found a bit of hair and a tiny amount of blood, so was a little nervous. It was right at dusk, so I was looking hard and fast for more blood. Slowly started to find specs here and there in a pretty straight line going the direction he was facing. After about 40yds, saw a lot of blood on some cactus, and that continued til I found him after 40 more yds. I had seen a white spot on his neck before I shot him, figured it was a battle wound/scar. Upon closer inspection it was, but… the tip of a broken antler was protruding from the scar (healed around the tine and not bleeding).
The following Tuesday morning, my buddy shot a mature, tall tined 8pt. He noticed one of the tines was broken off at the tip. See where I’m going??? Yup, turned out to be an exact match! Pretty cool coincidence and story to remember/tell! I had planned to have mine mounted with the broken tine in his neck exactly as I found him, but offered it to my buddy if he wanted it to “fix” his. He turned it down, agreeing it was much cooler to leave em as we shot/found em.

cool story! love to see some pictures.
They say everything happens for a reason. For me that reason is usually because I've made some bad decisions that I need to pay for.

Is that the end (tip) on outside? It looks like the tine is getting thicker going in and the tip is outside.
Not exactly the way I would think it would be.
Decades of voting for the lesser of two evils has gotten us just that.....

Not exactly the way I would think it would be. No, but it did split lengthwise, not a clean break - so thats why it looks as you describe.

I can’t imagine the levers and pulleys pulled to create that coincidence. Cool+P - thanks for sharing.

Pretty nifty.
My wife shot an 8pt 2 years ago and it had a broad head and part of a carbon shaft sticking out of its snout just below the left eye. That’s how it’s going on the wall.
Talking to you is like trying to nail jello to the wall.
