I had 2 days to hunt this year. I was in my tree stand 1/2 hour before daylight opening day. Cold and windy and spitting snow. Made it until about 11am. Went back to camp for lunch and coffee and to thaw out my fingers and toes. Back in the stand at 2p until the end of legal shooting hours. Didn’t see anything, and didn’t hear much shooting. Tuesday morning it was 19 degrees and 20-25 mph winds. I opted to stay in. I can’t deal with cold as well as I could when I was a young man. Went back out Tuesday afternoon for one last try before going home Wednesday morning. About 4:50pm I saw a couple does at about 65 yards. I shot one of them with my Savage 350 Legend. 165 grain Hornady FTX entered her left ribs quartering away and exited behind her left shoulder. Exit wound was about the size of a quarter. She ran about 25 yards and piled up. Not a huge deer, but I’ll eat every bite of her. Ron

Congratulations on the nice doe. We’ve had a great season so far. My son shot his first deer during youth season and I was able to harvest one of the mature deer on our farm Tuesday evening.

I have killed a couple big bucks in Iowa with a muzzleloader in 2016 and 2019. I will shoot a buck if I get the opportunity in Ohio. No such luck this year with a bow or rifle. I shot the yearling for the venison to eat. To be perfectly honest I had a narrow shot window between 2 trees and didn’t know she was a yearling until I found her dead. Good luck on your season men!

Second deer I’ve shot with a 350 Legend. First one in 2020 with my Bear Creek Arsenal AR-15 upper and a 150 grain Winchester Deer Season XP. Big mature doe at 45ish yards. This was my second. So far between me and my Pards (😂) we have come to love the 350 for our type of hunting. Doesn’t abuse you like a 12 gauge’s recoil, but makes short work of Whitetails.
