I’m no electrician and don’t pretend to be but I can run a screwdriver and wrench as good as anyone. My issue is with a couple of lights on my lower level AKA bi level house finished basement. I have two standard run of the mill boob lights on the same circuit with two standard switches and they get brighter and dimmer at their leisure whether or not my wife is running her hair dryer. Just randomly. All bulbs are good and recently replaced. Do I need to replace the fixtures, switches, both or one and how to tell which one if only one? Yes, I’m too cheap to call an electrician to replace a couple of fixtures or switches.

I'm no electrician either but I did stay in a Holday Inn during an ice storm. We had the same thing a while back. The house was 35 years old and the breaker box was not the best and probably undersized for the load. A couple of lights on the same circuit would flicker ot dim randomly. Turns out the buss bar was eroded and a couple circuits didn't have good connections and were arcing.
We replaced the whole breaker box.

Call an electrician. Its not a switch or fixture problem. Probably in the breaker panel.

When she hits 40 -45 and natural, you always dim the boob lights or drink a lot.

Tell her you need to Install another one because the one you've got only lights up one of hers.
Thank me later.

Pull the fixture apart and check the connections, I imagine the one is fed from the other so check there, then check the connections at the switch, and work your way back to the panel.

When there's a conductivity issue, there should be excessive heat being generated. If you can locate the point where that is happening then it may be a really simple fix (like a loose connection or a failing switch or some other device on the verge of failure). The problem is detecting and identifying where that is happening. A thermal monocular or scope might be a useful tool.

Loose ground in the breaker box and a loose ground wire in the fixture. 👍 it’s all tightened up now. No flickering. Thanks.

WTF is a mill boob light?
If you are not going to hire an electrician, buy a multi-meter and learn how to use it. Thermal devices as RiverRider suggested can also be useful.
What else is on the circuit? Refrigerator or freezer with a compressor starting to fail?

What’s interesting is how much code changes in fifteen years. I took the panel off and first thing out of my buddies mouth was “you can’t do that anymore.” Things are going to updated soon.

Run of the mill= common. Boob light= glass dome ceiling light with the decorative nut in the center that makes it look like the tit on a twenty something year old girl if you look at it sideways.
