looking to rebarrel a savage 14 223r to 6x45 20 to 22" 12 or 10 twist, maybe an 8 or 9.sporter or heavy sporter profile.

Get faster than 10 twist, it's better to twist faster than you think you need. I did a slow twist 1:12 6X47 (6mm-222 RM) and have been very limited on bullets I can use. It really likes 70 grain NBT and SBK bullets, but anything heavier needs to be flat base bullets and 80 grains is about the limit. When I built my 6X45 I used a 1:7 twist barrel, I still shoot 85 grain SGK as my first choice but I have a pertty decent load with 100 gr SGK as well.

gunshack has 26" 1:8 savage prefits in varmint contours. Heavier than you want, yes, but thats a VERY hard prefit to find, ask me how I know. I got one and am having my smith cut it down to 20". Good luck to you! Message me if you want to chat bout our similar builds.
