Have a chance to buy a refinished, excellent bore, excellent all-round. Over $1000. What say you?

I wouldn't pay that for a refinished 1899-B. I might consider it if it was returned to original condition by a pro and was in .32-40. Most rework you can spot real fast.
Some people like refinished to original condition rifles because they can't find an original. Some people just can't tell the difference and wants something that looks new.
Just my $.02, Rick....

Thank you for your reply. I agree with what you wrote. Problem is, if you want to call it a problem, I would have an extremely hard time knowing this gun had been refinished except for the fact that it looks too "nice" to be an original. It IS an expert job! 2nd problem is, I am kinda into levers and have wanted one of these for quite awhile and hadn't been able to find one worth having. Not particularyly fond of the caliber, .25-35, but, ammo is available though expensive, and I WOULD be picking up the cases! Still debating, but took so long to find this one, 'fraid I won't run across another.

If money is not a problem and you like it...then go for it! You can still buy .25-35 and you can always use .30-30 brass to make cases. Better than the .303 Savage round. Once fired brass is bringing more than factory loaded .25-35's.

Thanks for your replies, Rick. Price IS a considertion, but I want this particular model real bad, so guess I'll go ahead. By the way, you probably have already figured out I'm new on this site. What I have noticed so far in reading is that contributors seem to be much more considerate than on other sites I have visited. Seems like a great site to be part of, and I'm sure I can gain considerable Savage knowledge here. Looking forward to it!
