Some had rust issues on the frame. I’d verify. Check under the hood also.

I had a 2010 with that engine, only issue I saw was poor fuel mileage.

Probably the biggest problem with that range of Tacos is the rusty frame issue. I bought mine as it was getting a knew frame installed. Sold it to my son who is still driving it.

I've had an 07 for 14 years with no serious problems.

I have an 08 4x4. I drive it daily and has 220,000 miles. No unusual issues. Keep the oil and filters change and drive the wheels off it.

My 2007 was trouble free, sold it last spring for 1000 less what I paid for it originally. Mine was 6sp manual, very difficult to get in and out of 4wd even when I inflated the tires to a 1/16 th of an inch rolling radius. Mileage was about the same as a full size pickup.

Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

my '07 has 258,000 and still runs strong.

As has been mentioned, check the frame, that's been the biggest issue with the older gens.

I have replaced both front wheel bearings just recently and a few U-joints and one rear axle seal. Other than that, normal maintenance.

The older vehicles are less complicated, less to break ! I have a 2003 Ford Ranger (4 wheel drive) with 250,000 trouble free miles. Doesn't leak or use oil, pretty good gas mileage. No rust, everyone still works. JUst had it detailed, looks pretty darn good. The only things I would consider to replace it would be a Toyota.

I'm still driving my 07. It has 243,000 miles on it and I've spent next to nothing on it. New alternator at about 180,000. Replaced shocks/struts at 125,000 and have just bought another set that will go on it ASAP.

It is a small truck and there are things it won't do that a big truck will do. ( I also have a 2014 F150 for that), but if a small truck is all you need anything from about 2006-2014 should be pretty good as long as the previous owner didn't abuse it.

Frames are an issue where roads are regularly salted. Not an issue at all where I live.

I had a 2006 6spd V6 and had a lot of issues.

Here are some of them

Front cover seal goes out on 50% of them .
Valve Cover seals will weep heavily.

Recall on rear leaf springs. Replaced NC
Center drive train bearing replaced
Both front wheel bearings replaced
O2 sensors

I had a stack of invoices one inch thick with all the crap I did to it. I had a 2011 and a 2014 between the two one wheel bearing. Go figure

it had 115K when I sold it

Like others have said frame is the biggest concern. They had a recall which has expired. The rear leaf springs had a recall as well. Otherwise great trucks. I've got an 09 which has 297 k on it no issues ever. Haven't even had a check engine light

I had mine rust proofed every year. No rust issues anywhere. Worth while expenditure.

One would have to be crazy to own any truck in the rustbelt or Canada without having it rust proofed.

Was going to bid on one simply because everyone talks about how reliable they are. Decided not to bid on it. Never cared that much for the looks of them however.
