Has anyone replaced the Ruger boatpaddle stock recoil pad with an aftermarket pad?
A guy asked me to do one and it looks like the factory placement of the pad screws don't accommodate aftermarket pads very easily.
Looking for ideas, did you try and drill new holes in the thin web? or epoxy it on?

I always glued a Pachmyer on. It’ll look funky with the square profile when you’re done. Best to use one with no metal insert if you can get one. Last I knew Pachmyer would make them without the insert but you had to order 200 of the same size minimum.

Limbsaver makes a pre-fit pad. (No. 10011?) that is made to fit the zytel stock with a limbsaver adaptor plate. You need to order it from limbsaver directly. They work without extra fitting. The adaptor does not come with the pad but there is no additional charge.

They add an extra 3/4" to the length of pull vs the factory standard pad. This may cause you some trouble with the scope mounting. I changed the rear scope ring out to an extended ring and this worked fine with a leupold 4-12 vx2 scope to get the right eye relief.

Thanks for the replies.

I went a little different route.

I used a piece of 1/8" thick aluminum plate and made a piece that would fit in the recess that the factory recoil pad fit in.
Drilled holes for the original pad mounting screws and counter sunk them.
Them marked holes for the new pad, drilled and tapped them for machine screws and attached the .8" thick Decelerator pad.
Ground it down like any other pad job.

A nice install on a Boat Paddle stock. Actually the install is 300% better than the stock, a true silk purse from a sow's ear, pun intended.

Good job! Now I wish I had followed your example. The pad you ground to fit is much nicer than the pre-fit Limbsaver that I put on mine. The Limbsaver is actually too soft, and doesn't look as nice either.

Wow! That looks great. I've got one of the pre-fit Limbsaver pads on my .270 boatpaddle but don't really like it very much, but it's better than the stock pad. And have another one that I was going to put on my 7mm Mag boatpaddle, but this has definitely changed my mind! Thank you very much for posting this with such good photos.
