The wife was going thru her jewelry box the other day and came up with a few old rings and necklaces that she had inherited or acquired from one source or the other and no longer wears. She wa to to just sell them and use the money for other trinkets. The local guy will only exchange jewelry for jewelry and of course the pawnshops lowball you to death . So the question to the fire is, where is or who is the best place or places to sell jewelry, especially diamond rings or bracelets ,some had 3 or 4 carats or more.??

My other half trades stuff she don't use with a jeweler that makes whatever she wants, uses her stones if she wants them.
Much less than just walking in empty handed.

My grandmother left me a big honking ring guard with about 14 diamonds in it. Plus her actual wedding ring that had a large center stone and about 6 more stones surrounding it.
I let my baby sister have the large stone for her ring
I could not sell the stones, wasn’t going to let some slimeball lowball the deal.
Instead I spent more money and had two men’s style rings made by a local jeweler. One is a big horseshoe pinky. 🤙
Still have 7 stones left and recently got them out and am considering having a 3 rd ring built.

Before 1950 many diamonds were wacked off at the cutlet to make another smaller diamond... If was kinda a thing. These diamonds have poor resale value. If the cutlet is good and the cut is ideal you may have some real value. I used to have a guy in Richmond, VA that was top-shelf on buying/selling/knowing these things... but he is retired or dead. No idea where to send you that is HONEST.

You could get a small one planted in your front tooth. Not real noticeable just adds some dazzle to your smile.

Unfortunately second hand diamonds and jewelry typically bring fractional value …….kind of like full custom rifles in 223 WSSM…..

Can't say as if I am ready for a"grill" and most of the stuff has no sentimental value, not her mother's or anything like that I know two are graded by the gem people , both over 3 carats ,some are old settings but as far as I know none have been reset . Just wa t to sell them and of course the gold settings have some value also

My girlfriend ran a large high-end jewelry store many years ago. They paid scrap value on gold and beans for everything except the highest grade diamonds. Then you were lucky to get 70% of the street value and the street value was 60%-70% retail value.
I doubt much has changed...
You can go broke buying jewelry and slightly less broke selling it.

Much less than just walking in empty handed. Jeweler’s take everyone for a ride, coming and going. It’s a racket. It’s only worth something when it’s stolen….

A well known and trusted Memphis jeweler was busted replacing lab diamonds for the real stuff every time someone would have their jewelry cleaned. He did the same on Rolex watches. Fake bezels and faces for the real stuff and cleanout the guts with knockoff windigns.
Make sure you know who you are dealing with...

Diamonds...........all you hear is how rare they are. Yet you can walk into any department store and find literally 100's for sale. Add in Same, Costco, Amazon, etc. The rare isn't rare.
They have done a remarkable marketing job with selling them. And now the ones created in the labs look just as good.
Only hope of getting a decent price is to sell it yourself. Start at 50% of what it cost and work downwards.
My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.
