Are the stock ergos, mainly grip diameter & open-ness & fore end thickness the same amongst the Hunter/Pro series & the Mountain Ascent series?

I know the materials & construction are different, as are the weights & the magazine types as well, but since I haven't been able to actually handle all the versions, I'm mainly asking about the ergos of the different versions.

Thanks.

I just bought a Adirondack and it is lovely. As are Montanas. Hunter not so much, maybe sharper comb?

Not sure if the new Pro Hunter as Kimber aren’t sending any firearms at all down under. Hopefully that will change.

The Montana is a part of the Mountain line & has the better stock.

Any of the Mountain series is very hard to find anywhere right now, even with their really big dealers.

Just looking a lots of pics, it looks like the wrist is a little bigger on the Hunter series.

Thanks for your comments.

I have 1 hunter in 6.5 CM and 3 Montanas currently in the safe. Laying an 84m on top of the hunter, they look identical. They feel identical when shooting them too. Measuring at midpoint of the pistol grip, the hunter is 3/8" more circumference - but they feel identical in the hand.

On the Ascent - give me a few days, have one inbound. I've handled them before and expect them to be the exact same ergos.

Thanks, exactly what I was looking for.

3/8" is quite a bit of difference & I'm surprised that you don't feel it.

Please follow up when you get the Ascent or send me a PM.

Thanks again.

I went back this AM and measured them all again with the wifes cloth measuring tape to be more exact. The actual difference is closer to 1/4 inch in circumference. The Hunter measures 4 5/8 around the pistol grip, the SA measure 4 7/8, and my LA 4 15/16. Handling them all this AM, they all feel the same to me. As the pic shows the ergos are identical. The Ascent should be here late next week - it is an 8400 magnum action (7RM). I'm now curious myself how it will measure. I'll post when I get it.

I have both Hunter and Montanas here at the house in 84m short action flavor. Also have a 84L long action Montana. I'd be happy to take any measurements you'd want.

Thank You. I'll take any measurements that you'd like to take.

Mainly just interested in diameter of the wrist & width of the fore end. Looks lie both versions are about the same on the openness of the grip.

I strongly prefer smaller in both respects & if you are familiar with a Rem 700 KS stock, that is about my idea of perfection.

I want to buy a Kimber but even at a premium, I want to get as close to what I like as possible, & in addition, there's about an 12 oz difference in weight as well from the Hunter series to the Ascent series...........I will get a SA, with 22" barrel no matter which version I end up with.

I don't know what's up with Kimber, but they are hard to find these days; even their big distributors like Europtics, has next to nothing.

You can pull the gel from the hunter stock and make them lighter.

I was not aware of that. I don't have any Kimbers currently.

Thanks.

I’ve got 3 84m Montanas, 1 84L Montana, 1 84L Hunter Pro Desolve black, and my brother has an 84m hunter that I bought for him. Just based in looks and feel, they are the same to me. I pulled the gel from the butt stock and pistol grip of my pro desolve, and it weighs within an ounce or two of my Montana. So basically the difference in the Montana and hunter is detachable be blind magazine, and stock composition.

How is the balance after pulling out the gel?

My Ascent is supposed to arrive tomorrow/Weds. I'm really curious now. I'll try to overlay all 3 (MT, Hunter, Ascent) and take a pic. Should be interesting. If I was a betting man, I'd wager a significant sum there won't be much, or any significant difference, between the 3 in the stock ergos, angles, and diameters. I've been wrong before.....

It’s been a while since I handled my Hunter, but I’d say they are very close.

I’d have a hard time imagining anyone disliking the ergos of either rifle.

Asscnt came in yesterday. I grabbed a few pics and dims.

All 4 - 84., 84L, Hunter SA, Ascent 8400 mag

I measured each stock in 3 places: narrowest circumference of the pistol grip, right behind the front sling stud, and overall length

84M: 4 15/16, 5.0, 29 1/4 long
84L: 5 1/16, 5 1/16, 30 1/4
Hunter: 4 5/8, 5 1/16, 29 1/14
Ascent: 5 3/16, 5 5/8, 33 1/4

The Ascent is a beefier stock all the way around. This is the 8400 Magnum action, the standard cartridge Ascent I believe is built around the 84L with a spiral bolt, partially fluted barrel, and break. The Ascent stock feels more sticky/rubberized than either of the Montana or Hunter stocks. I'll prob keep the Ascent, Bob the barrel to 23 or 24, get rid of the break. I'd bet this gun doesn't shoot all that well. The barrel is touching the stock along the bottom. The trigger is 4.5 lbs. Haven't checked the mag box yet but will have a closer look this weekend. I find alot of used Kimbers "don't shoot", at least until you straighten out the basics. Then they miraculously shoot better. I've only had 1 that didn't shoot all that well - a 257 Bob I got in a trade. It would still do 1.25". It became a 338 Fed. It shoots a bit better than 1.25 now after Shaen got done with it wink
