Happened to stop in a local gun shop that is a little bit out of the way for may daily travels. In the shop (owned by great people) I happened to find a Rem 700 LSS Mountain Rifle in 7mm-08. I have been wanting to collect the earlier Mtn Rifles for a while but always seem to find the .280 Rem or 270 win, which I already have. This isnt the early early model, Its a 2006 it looks like, but it is a very nice gun that isnt made anymore. Glad I ran across it and was able to add it to my collection. It wasnt necessarily a steal of a price but it was lower than I had been seeing the last couple of years. Picked it up for $800 and it came with half a box of shells and a Leupold 1 piece base. Happy to have it!

Great find my friend, they are great rifles, I shoot older ones and they are very accurate just make sure you don't overheat the barrel then the groups will open up, I usually shoot one foul shot and then three shot group and let it cool down. Enjoy.

Mine is a 30/06 of the same vintage. I think it may have been mispriced but it’s perfect for mountain hunting and I used it to take all my elk. I replaced the firing pin assembly ‘cause I didn’t care for the J-lock or the funny rubbing noises it made when the bolt was raised.

I have one in 7-08 and it shoots pretty well with 162g amaxes and h4350. I put mine in a first gen Ti stock and that reduced the weight and helped the balance. I still have the laminate wrapped and stashed away.

For $800 you scored on that rifle - congrats. I think when new they used to sell for something like $750ish. I also had a 7MM-08 about 11-12 years ago and my plans where to turn it into a "faux Ti". At the time I couldn't find one of the Ti take-off stocks and got impatient and sold it. Its one of many I regret selling since they where a dang nice rifle and typically shot well.

Not particularly a 700 fan, but always thought the the SS lammy and walnut ones like the CDL were handsome. Yours is very nice.
What fresh Hell is this?

Have owned a couple of the laminated stainless models. Great looking guns, tough as nails. They tended to be slightly heavy with those stocks though.
