what is the longest bullet that can be loaded in the 250, trying to set up a grandson's 250 and not buy a array of bullets to figure what will cycle. Ken

If it's a pre-1960 with 1-14" twist, you'll want to keep it to 0.9" or less for best accuracy. If you really want to go with 100gr, can try up to 0.95".

The 87gr Speer Hot Cores are a consistent winner if you can find them. Speer lists them as available online at $30 for a box of 100.

Definitely go with the Speer Hot Core. I have used both the 87 and 100 grain bullets in the early .250. The 100s don't always work well though. I'd start with the 87s if you can get them.

At that rate about anything that will stay under the COAL should work. I'd try the 117 grain bullets right off.

Yeah.. you can do pretty much anything. I've loaded 117's in a 250-3000 cartridge before, just to see what happened at 100yds.

My choice would be the Nosler 100gr BT's, or Partitions if going after bigger critters.

If it's 1-8 I would lean toward longer heavier bullets.

I'm old school, if you want to hunt with it, my first thought is 115 gr NP.

Edit: 117 grain Hornady Interlock ain't a bad bullet either. They shoot absolute bug holes in my 25-06.

Years ago Nosler made Partition 100 grain bullets that were designed for fast twist Savages. I have one box secreted away.

it is a .308, so will the 308 cycle longer bullets, if so, thats a plus, I think

It really doesn't matter how long the bullet is because it doesn't change the max COAL.

The cartridge should be the same length regardless of whether you are shooting 87 grain or 120 grain bullets.

You are hiding the longer bullets in the case, not out front.

The 308 may or may not help you cycle longer cartridges, but it doesn't help you cycle longer bullets.

I seat my bullets as far out as possible, making sure the bullets are seated correctly to the lands ect

I've shot a number of deer, antelopes and pigs with 100 gr TTSX (not in a 99) and have always been super happy.
