I ended up with an old fire ring someone left at the deer lease. I’m gonna fix it up for the hell of it. Some of you all like my little projects I do to keep busy.

Neither end was cut square, so I plumbed it up with wedges, used block and soapstone to slide around and mark to cut.

Cut square on each end

Made a chain thang to help work on it and move with tractor. It will be a couple days before I have time to fool with it. Wifey due in from Norway in a little while, her family Christmas party is tomorrow.

I have a question about the top. I’m gonna cut the bottom out of this 48”x48” piece of 3/8 plate. I was thinking of putting the 3” piece that’s left on top. Should I cut it round, put it on it square or 45 degree the corners?
I’m gonna put a 3/4 round bar on that top plate if round, square, or 45 degree cut. I have 4” pipe for the three legs.

Round would be like this

My son brought me a 12" piece of that from the pipeline and is up at the fire spot doing fire duty. Works great. Heavy as hell.

Should last a long time. We had an 18" tall 36 " diameter piece of gasline from the pipeline at our old camp.

I thought round would be good at first but there are times on mine a corner at the edge would be a good place to sit the coffee pot or skillet.

That’s the way I’m leaning.

Should I use slick round bar or a piece of 3/4 rebar? I’ve seen fire pits with rebar and thought they looked good.

I vote slick, but I used to live in the north part of the country.

Looks good. I'm sure you will add this, but holes at the bottom of the sidewalk will help a lot with keeping the fire going.

Holes on the base tend to clog.
