Not that anyone cares but Apple, Dell, and HP are American companies. Lenovo and Asus are Chinese. We can talk all day about where components are made etc but at the end of the day id rather support an American company using Chinese child labor and bringing the $ home than a Chinese company using the same child labor and keeping the money.
Also this...Im typing from a 2012 MacBook. It works as good now as it did the day I purchased it. Thats almost 12 years of perfect service. Its the cheapest laptop I've ever owned and I've enjoyed every day of its use when you consider that.
PCs are for the ignorant, unwashed, cheap a-holes and computer nerds who like to work on $hit or people who get free computers from their employer. I qualify for several of these LOL
Look at eBay...see what used machines are worth. Resale tells the tale...just as it does in vehicles.
Flame on...

Any conversation on this topic has to include a mention of the allowable budget. Computer prices ratchet up in very small increments, like $25 to $40, and at every price point there are differences that affect the usability and experience.

Wabi, if you have always been a Windows user, I would not recommend you switch to Mac or Linux. Go to woot.com or newegg and find a reconditioned business machine running Windows 10 that's in your price range. Good brands are Toshiba, Dell, and Lenovo. Here's just one LINKAgree with Rocky, Apples ain’t for everybody, And they ain’t the cheapest, Got a hunch Wabi ain’t laying down a grand for a laptop. a 250 dollar budget

It’s gonna have to be power on; click Microsoft Edge; type.

Every laptop I've owned since laptops came out was a refurb Dell with zero issues. For past 15 years I've bought my refurbs from Newegg (only because the local refurb dealer went out of business). Get a latitude with 15" screen (numeric keypad not available on smaller 13" screens).

Do you really even need a “computer”? I futzed around with them for years: built a couple or three, upgraded them, installed Linux. Still have a Windows laptop that my late father gave me when he started going dotty, a 2007 Mac mini that runs but is software-dead, and the wife uses an older iMac for email and watching YouTube dance videos. Gotta keep that running too….
I do everything now on an iPad, an 8th generation that’s still “alive” for updates. Doing my taxes kept me on a computer but now I do those on the iPad as well. If you have a smartphone, especially an iPhone, you already know how to use one for the most part. Keyboards are available if you need one for some tasks. I have one, but it almost never gets used. Try one out, a friend’s or at a store…..
What fresh Hell is this?

Have fun with those 300 battery changes, etc on the Apple product. Dell, order one online when the time comes for 30 bucks and swap it out in 5 seconds. The Dell business grade laptops are top notch.

RS +100 That's what I'm using. But only because the Apple Store was sold out of MacBook Light. (my wife bought it for me for Christmas a few years ago) The MacBook Light costs a lot less and unless you're very involved with computers the Light will do anything you need. But I'm definitely a MacBook guy these days.
