Anyone own one?
Good? Bad?
Buddy of mine has a new in box 06 he wants to sell for 500.
Looked like a decent rifle. I really know nothing about them.

Made by Zastava, same gun as the old Mark X. Good solid commercial Mausers. In today's world, a NIB one for $500 seems more than fair.

^^^^^ THIS ^^^^^

The laminated stocks are kind of heavy when compared to the walnut stocks on the Interarms Mark X. The quality is heads and shoulders above the quality of the current production Zastavas.

My friend won one at RM Elk Foundation...he was going to sell it without shooting it, I said, you may want to shoot it first. He did...now he won't sell it to me. I think those hammer forged barrels are hard to beat. His seems to be bedded well, decent trigger...pretty much an out of the box turn key rifle. You will never go too far wrong with a '98 commercial action IMO.

Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

I have one in 300 WM, with a Walnut stock that I have yet to shoot it. I like the look, feel, and all...just don't much have a use for a big magnum. I'd let someone have it if they handed me $500 for sure.

So I may change this thread to: who do I send this thing to to make it a 30 gibbs?

had 2 Charles Daly (zastava) 270 and 300wm. (also have a mini) . They both shot MOA-ish. Sold them just to thin the herd.

Still have a walnut/walnut stock.

If it were me, my first call would be to Chad Dixon at Long Rifles Inc, see if he can accommodate.

It’s a great deal considering the quality of the Zastava 98 which were used in Interarms Mark X, Charles Daly models and Remington 798s. The action alone is worth $500. If you get tired of the fine 30-06 chambering and want to rebarrel, a 338-06, 35 Whelen or perhaps a 9.3x62 Mauser is in the future. I like a Mauser action for a mid bore (.33 to .41) or larger bore.

Love me some 30-06 springfield, but looking to maybe make this one a little different. Figured a gibbs would be a fun thing to tinker with.

There is a lot of stuff the CDNN has closed out over the years that I should have bought. Marlin X guns for $270 being one that I did buy a few of.

I went to the shop and checked it out yesterday after work. Nice rifle, but they are just lacking a bit in my opinion. Just can't do the safety on those things and that bolt shroud is, well, it is what it is. I'd rather just cough up 200 more and grab another model 70.

For 200 more you get a safety.

I would recommend you buy it…..zastava made some quality Mauser…..custom rifle maker Harry Lawson used them as a base for some of his custom rifles for a reason.

You can always borrow and pay the money back but you can never get the time back

Everyone hunter should own a fine rifle, life is short.
