I’ve never regretted buying a good quality gun. Price point is a bad way to choose one.

Fair enough, but you might be wasting your budget/money on a gun that won’t perform.
I’d look for a used Beretta, Benelli, Browning or Remington semi auto.
Good luck.

Looks like you’re not too far from the cost of the Beretta A300. IMO this is the best value in auto shotguns. Maybe find a used one for less. Good luck with the search.

BTW, I drive a used Chevy. I’d prefer a better truck. But reality is what it is.

My advice, as the owner of a TriStar O/U: The guns look nice and seem like a good deal. The quality internally isn’t there.

Soon after I bought mine, I shot a round of Sporting Clays with a borrowed Citori 725. No comparison. I own several shotguns. I wouldn’t buy a TriStar again ever. Cheap guns just cost you more in the long run. I’m thankful I won a different Turk gun and traded it on it and didn’t invest the full price.

Some cheap guns work out. I got a SPR 453 as a gift about fifteen years ago. It’s been nothing but reliable, but the finish is about toast. They’re cheaper for a reason.

Save a few more bucks and buy a quality gun that won’t cost you more in the long run. I started the thread
referenced above.

I bought a Viper Bronze G2 semi auto in 20 gauge 4? Years ago. Mostly an experiment to see what the fuss was about. I have way “better” guns including two Beretta semis, a 391 and A300 for ducks. Bought it from Bud’s and paid an extra $29 for their lifetime warranty. If they can’t repair it, they’ll allow the purchase price against anything they sell. Probably 1200 rounds through it now.

The trigger sucks. Was 7.5 lbs. many say the mcarbo spring for the same gun but a Mossberg will fix it. It didn’t. Maybe 7 lbs now.

After 600? Rounds the main recoil spring broke in 2. The gun still functioned fine. TriStar had a new spring (plus a magazine spring) delivered in 2 days.

The gun won’t cycle cheap price point promotional loads. Makes it a single shot much of the time. Has had zero issues with AAs or hunting loads.

I’ve shot multiple limits of doves and a few limits of wild pheasants with it.

It hasn’t been flawless (all issues outlined above) but I’ve liked it enough to kick around buying one in 28. $700ish is half price of similar Beretta.

All that said, I wouldn’t touch their over/under with a 10 foot pole. Nothing but bad reviews on them.

Good walk in the cattails.

I bought a cheap TriStar marine pump for ~$280. It was more of a utility need around the farm. It works but is nothing special. I was more interested in the finish.

right now a Beretta A300 Ultima 20ga can be had for less than $650 with the best internet price and the $75 rebate. Seems like a no brainer if a guy wants a 20.

I've got a few. TT15 double trap, two viper G2 20 gauges, one in Wood one in synthetic youth, and a 28 gauge bronze deluxe.. I've had exactly zero issues with any of them. if you buy your gun new disassemble and clean the shipping and packing grease out of it re lube properly reassemble go shoot.. also read your manual on what it tells you about ammo. this is a point of some disappointment you can say. to get your 20 gauges to work reliably sometimes you have to shoot stiffer ammo than one wants. if I remember correctly I think the book will state 7/8 Oz loads at 1300 ft per second.. now I have found with careful selection of powder you can lower that a fair bit but be warned. that's always seem to me like a pretty heavy charged for being a gas gun.. but loads that fit within the parameter of the manual have always been 100% reliable.. and many loads that are lower than that with some careful planning and thought of what powder you are using have been 100% reliable..

also keep in mind when one talks about "TriStar" the company itself makes several various models of shotguns and some are better than others. do your research and pick wisely...

You're right. I misunderstood. I was thinking he meant $650 before the rebate. I thought 12ga maybe but no way in 20ga. My bad. I did a lot of searching before I asked where he found it. Wife said not to buy another right now but at $650 I was going to anyway. My wife would be mad at me just for attempted gun buying, lol. Conspiracy to buy a gun, lol.

One thing that doesn't change is that poor people got poor ways and well off people are always ready to let them know the mistake they are making by not holding up a 7-11 to get the money for something better! My 28ga CZ came used with a gun case and 10 bxs of factory ammo. $300!

Smoky Mountain Guns & Ammo lists the A300 20ga in Mossy Oak camo right now for $699.99. I believe the rebate would make it $75 off that price. It looks like they offer free shipping on firearms. I've not ordered from them before, but they do have some OK reviews, including one from this site. I bought one from Palmetto State Armory earlier this fall for this same price but the rebate was not in effect then. I'm temped to buy another one. I located this vendor by searching "Gun Deals Beretta A300".

Not at all. But I'd sooner own a $400 pump gun than a $400 autoloader. Less to go wrong. On the other hand, 10 boxes of ammo in a cheap autoloader may be a lifetime supply of ammo!

Most firearms go decades without being shot 100 times. The diehards on the Fire are the tiniest minority and not many on here are diehards.

I live exactly 12 minutes from a trap and skeet range as well as have my own electronic thrower. basically any time a shotgun comes out it's shot at least 2 to 300 times...
