Not a parrot but a cockatiel. The little bugger lasted for 25 years.

The summer I was in 8th grade I hand a Quaker from hatchling. I earned him by cleaning cages and aquariums the whole summer.

He was a really fun pet but birds are filthy. He flew away after I’d neglected trimming his wings and he escaped his cage while I was moving out of my first apartment after college.

I miss him. He was cool.

My brother used to have 2 parrots, Conure I think. Miserable beasts. They would scream all day. It was deafening. When he let them out to fly around the room, they hated tall men. They'd pick out the tallest man in the room and try to pull his hair out while biting his ears.
My brother died from a stroke in '10. He didn't have a family and nobody was crazy enough take them so they were on Craigslist immediately.

That what conures are like. Had one. Hated everyone, bit like a pitbull.

For some reason took a real liking to my nephew. He was the only one could handle the bird. It’d sit on his shoulder and nibble his ear and hair. Nephew died of a brain tumour. I wonder if the bird knew?

We don't need a parrot. There are more than enough of them here on this forum.

My brother's ex had one. Lived in a cage in the kitchen. Anytime anybody dropped something the bird would say "Oh schit!"

Girlfriend had a female blue and gold macaw until recently.
Lived to be roughly 50 years old.

That bird was a lot of fun, and pretty quiet except when she wanted to warn us about something. Stranger at the house, etc. Really good that way.
Mostly well behaved. She liked rock & roll, Christmas music and anytime I would whistle a bunch of songs for her. She definitely liked to go for rides, in a car or on my shoulder.

Very smart bird. Understood quite a few English words though she never spoke very many. Maybe 7 or 8 words or phrases, got lazy about using them as she got older.

If she ever wanted to hurt anyone, she could have done it easily.
Watching her bite into a walnut or Brazil nut, effortlessly, was a constant reminder of why they have been called "flying boltcutters".

Certainly a pet, not at all like a dog but as smart as a smart dog, perpetually stuck at the emotional level of a human 2 year old.

My sister owned one... Briefly. My brother said he didn't intentionally leave the cage door open, but..
Those things are loud AF! We could hear it screaming around the neighborhood for a few days before it finally took off for good
