Surprised? Look at whom she chose to marry, how she has lived, the pretend doctorate, etc.. Still surprised? Not everyone will understand the full significance of that. Among academic degrees, there is an informal hierarchy based on the selectivity of students (which is evidenced in part by test scores such as the GRE), duration of the program, and especially its rigor. Among these, the EdD is near the bottom. Moreover, there are also informal protocols suggesting where the use of the honorific title Doctor is appropriate. In general, the title is used in professional settings, and not social. Of course the media fawn all over Doctor Jill Biden. It's also worth noting that there are and have been other public figures who hold doctorates, but they are seldom referred to as Doctor. Newt Gingrich comes to mind. It seems the title is used uniformly with persons favored by the left, Martin Luther King being a prominent example. None of this is to say that these credentials are without merit, just that the fawning over Dr. Biden is extreme. Didn't one of the talking heads even suggest that she could be Surgeon General, mistaking her for a medical doctor?
