Am thinking of starting a "Go Fund Me" site, where anybody who's never fired a 6.5 Creedmoor yet finds it doesn't do anything differently than a 6.5x55, .260 or whatever can send me the aforementioned $20. I'll throw a party here in Montana next summer, and we can all relax and laugh a little while we discuss this in person.
Oh, and there's also an excellent local range only 4 miles from our house, where we can all go and shoot our rifles at ranges out to 1000 yards--including at full-sized, "life"-painted steel silhouettes of animals from pronghorns to moose. Eileen and I are life members, and can take guests for $5 apiece, which would be easily paid from the funds. If you got twenty bucks from everyone who expressed an irrational opinion about the Creedmoor you could afford to buy a cargo container full of cases of Midleton Very Rare for the party. HA!! And not wrong.

I wanted the Steyrs, had a Tikka in 6.5CM... As far as the chamber dimensions I could care less. I have loads for both that are every bit as good as a Creed will do. I have recommended a Creed to new non reloading hunters for the reasons that have been stated.

I read today that the Royal Marines have adopted the 6.5 Creedmoor for their new designated marksman rifle.

A little used $425 M700 ADL came home today. Looking forward to playing with it.

I guess I am in the 6.5 Creedmoor does nothing that a 6.5X55 or 6.5X57 won't do group. Nothing wrong with the Creed, but having had several 6.5's a Tika T3X 6.5 Creedmoor did nothing that my current Steyr's in 6.5X55 and 6.5X57 don't do. I handload so I'm in that group. I have recommended the 6.5 Creedmoor to several young folks starting out. Accurate rifles that don't have to break the bank and good ammo easy to find. Had a Remington 700 in .260, it does not do what a 6.5X55 can do. The advantage over your Steyr's in 6.5X55 and 6.5X57 is that you can find arms and ammo in 6.5 CM that are readily available and affordable. And the chamber/throat dimensions are more uniform rifle to rifle. Good point. That's a very commonly overlooked advantage of the 6.5 Creedmoor. There's a reason why so many 6.5 Creedmoor rifles will just flat out shoot with a wide range of ammo...

Would I hunt with one? Absolutely. Would I purposely go out and buy a rifle chambered in Creedmoor? Not likely unless it was in some sort of single shot falling block - or a killer deal on a Win Featherweight - MAYBE. Cat This is precisely how I ended up with my 6.5 Creedmoor. I’ve been wanting a Winchester 1885 for years, and Miroku recently did a run of them in hi-grade low-wall. The only one that interested me that was available here in Canada was the 6.5CM. I would have preferred it in 7-08 cuz I have been hand loading that one for my M70FW for a few years. However, not an option, so I snagged one in 6.5CM. I’m amazed by the accuracy and Hornady’s 143ELD-x Precision Hunter has a level of accuracy I thought I would never see in hunting ammo out of a factory. I haven’t done more than some initial loading for the cartridge, but I was very impressed with my early results with Hornady brass, 140SST, and Superformance. And the 1885 low wall is a fabulous, elegant little rifle, which probably goes without saying.

So (5.56 mm + 7.62 mm) / 2 = 6.59 mm
Seems like a sensible middle ground between .223 and .308, with good design, good barrel life, mild recoil and great accuracy/ballistic performance.
I've settled on a minimalist .223 and .308/.30-06 combo for what I do in that caliber range with rifles (both hunting and target rifles available, bullets from 55 grains to 220 grains), but if I ever want to split the difference it will likely be with a 6.5 Creedmoor.

I have a question and hope someone that is experienced in barrel work can chime in . I have a Model 70 Winchester Classic in 308 early 90 model which has the old style trigger. Love the rifle and would never part with it. Also have a BACO M70 in 243. My question is can my 308 Model 70 be fitted with a 6.5 CM barrel and still feed from magazine of my 308? Been wanting to do this for some time so need some help. Not interested in buying the 6.5 in a Model 70 because I want to keep the 308 because of the old style trigger, and the new M70’s have the box trigger. By doing this I get to keep my gun gun as original and own a 6.5 CM…. thanks for any help.

Everything I've seen worked fine with just a barrel change.
