As far as I can tell, it's an 1899 Grade AB in configuration, with takedown option. Special Grade AB had fancy American walnut, pistol grip, A engraving and A5 checkering. But it's not recorded that way, it's recorded as an 1899A with all options except fancy American walnut. I think it has fancy American walnut tho, they just didn't record it. It is drilled and tapped for scope bases. Went for $3325. It has quite a bit of original mirror bluing left.. but the pics make it hard for me to tell how much. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/1023765108

Could never get past the extra holes. Not pictured or mentioned. Think the buyer will be happy?

You know.. he says it was drilled, and says he put up pictures of the holes.. but the only added pic is of the tang sight holes. I bet it wasn't drilled. I mean he obviously doesn't know Savages well, he listed it as "Savage Model 1899 Bolt Action Rifle". Here's the "drilled"

Think the buyer will be happy? I sure as heck would have if I'd have chased it and won.

Guilty as charged, I'd seen the first ones that he posted. Didn't catch that he'd added a peep sight comment later. A PICTURE HAS BEEN POSTED SHOWING WHERE THE LEVER ACTION RIFLE HAS BEEN DRILL AND TAPPED.
Information above was added on 12/12/2023 3:30:03 PM THE BORE IS IN GOOD CONDITION.
YES IT HAS BEEN TAPPED AND DRILL.

Guy doesn't know what he's doing. It's obviously not D&T'd aftermarket. He also should have shown closeup photos of the engraving. The buyer probably got a hellavu deal.

Not even a hint of a tang crack.
Those tang sight filler screws don't look like they have ever been turned.
Been well cared for, for a long time.

Butt plate is very light in color... stripped, faded case color, plated, the lighting...?

I think that might be the lighting/reflection.
