RL 17 with 225 gr bullets. Ram Shot Big game and RL 15 also worked well with 225 gr bullets.

RL 17 was a little faster and found a common load that worked in the 2 338 RCM rifles I own.

Getting great results with my 22" 338 RCM built on a Tang safety Ruger using 54 gr of Varget with the 225 accubond, velocity 2733. Chose Varget over RL-17 for its temperature stability.

When I first built it I tried:

225 accubonds: worked up to 61 gr of RL-17 / 2750 fps with Fed 210 match primer.
180 nosler bt: worked up to 64 gr of RL-17/ 3045 fps. 62 gr had same POI at 225s.
215 sierras: worked up to 55 gr of Varget, most accurate 54 gr/ 2730 fps.
215 sierras: worked up to 64 gr of H4350/ 2865 fps

Got my hands on some 185 fusions recently:
XBR 8208 with 185 fusion
52.5 2694
53.5 2732
54.5 2784, 2785 most accurate

How far out can you seat the 225 Accubonds with the Tang safety Ruger? In the Hawkeye Ruger 2.86" is about maximum. A 3" box would be better.

Great thanks. Now I have to see what I have on the shelf, or availability if I need to order.

I had all three of my Ruger tang safety mag boxes lengthened. Altered SA mag box is 3.050", I seat bullets around 3.030"

I don't think the magazine box on the .338 RCM Hawkeye can be lengthened unfortunately. That was the impression I got last time I pulled it apart and looked.

It requires some milling of the inletting for the mag box then cutting and lengthening the mag box. Wyatts mag boxes alsdo require some action inletting on a variety of rifle actions. Don't see why the hawkeye can't have it done as well.

I'll have another look. Thanks for the information. I've installed longer Wyatts in Remington 700 short actions.
