Ken Curtis who played Festus on Gunsmoke was a singer long before becoming an actor. If they ever let him show his talent on Gunsmoke I missed that episode.
Sheb Wolley who played Pete Nolan on Rawhide.
Lorne Green of Bonanza
Ed Ames who played Mingo on Danile Boone.
And of course Jim Nabors, AKA Gomer Pyle
Most people don't really want the truth.
They just want constant reassurance that what they believe is the truth.
Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Give a man a welfare check, a forty ounce malt liquor, a crack pipe, an Obama phone, free health insurance. and some Air Jordan's and he votes Democrat for a lifetime.
I think I recall numerous episodes where Ken Curtiss sang on gunsmoke episodes. I do believe at least 2 while he was sitting in the Long Branch saloon.
He also did a stint with the Suns of the Pioneers as I recall.

Written by Merle Travis in the late 40's. It was made famous by Tennessee Ernie Ford. Many others have sung it since then. This is the 1st time I've heard Lorne Green do it, though.
It's a protest song about the miserable living conditions of coal miners. They weren't paid in cash. They were paid in company script that could only be redeemed at the company owned store. It was impossible to save any money to leave so they were virtual slaves to the company. It lead to the formation of the United Mine Workers union who finally broke the company stronghold over the miners. Like most other unions, they originated in times of need and they did a good job of getting fair wages and conditions for their members. The problems and corruption didn't come until later.
“In a time of deceit telling the truth is a revolutionary act.” ― George Orwell

Absolutely epic tune! The passion in the video is intense. (First time I have seen this video) The things you will agree to for that first piece of tail as a teenager. Jeff
