I have a fluted Sauer 202 barrel in .30-06 that I would like to trade for a 6.5x55 barrel. If you have one you want to sell or trade, please let me know.

I almost had a heart attack when I saw the headline of a 202 barrel. I’ve been looking for one other than 30-06 for a long time. GLWS

I don't know how realistic it is to find a 6.5x55 factory barrel. I may have to get an SSG3000 extension adapter and have a custom barrel attached.

I just sold my Mod 200 30-06. Yes the rage is for the metrics. Best to have benchmark make the adaptor.

I talked with Benchmark last week. They said they would sell me a barrel and adapter, but they can't guarantee it will fit a 202 or headspace correctly. But, I've read posts from people who have bought them. I don't know who to believe.

One guy told me and sent me pictures that the Benchmark adapter sticks very slightly out of the action. If that is the case, I am not sure how headspacing could be correct. I need to talk with my gunsmith about this.

They can't guarantee it will fit a 202 as they have only tested them on an SSG the owner has.

Just checked my Benchmark 202 barrel with headspace gauges. Go fits, No Gym does not.

What cartridge do you have in a Benchmark barrel for your 202? Is it a standard 202 contour, or did you pick one of the Benchmark contours?

Cartridge is 6.5x55 and the contour is a custom one I had them cut. It has no shoulder to contact the receiver, similar to the the SSG3000 straight shank. Barrel shoots sub MOA.

Does anyone have, or has had, both fluted and unfluted barrels in somewhat close cartridges/calibers? I am curious about the weight difference in fluted vs unfluted Sauer 202 barrels.

My 202 LW 30-06 weighs in at 2 lbs 4 oz. I've had the standard barrels as well and they weighed in between 2 lbs 9 oz to 2 lbs 11 oz for the standard cartridges. Sauer's fluting is much deeper than other brands I've seen.

Thanks. This is very helpful. I am going to sell my .30-06 fluted barrel and put a non-fluted 6.5x55 on when I can find one. Once I add scope and rings, will still be about 7.5 pounds total.

Have you seen any accuracy differences between fluted and unfluted ones?

My 30-06 fluted LW barrel shoots about 1 MOA. My Benchmark fluted barrel shoots sub MOA. The Sauer barrels I've owned that weren't fluted I was only working on load development and had not shot factory ammo through them.

I just removed my lightweight fluted .30-06 barrel and it only weighs 1 # 14 ounces. I expected it to be same or close to yours. Mine does not have open sights. Does yours?
