You likely already know, but a hunting can is a bit of a gamechanger. I still have rifles that don't wear cans, but they don't see as much use as the ones that do. Putting one on a short barreled single shot just made good sense to me, as the overall package remains carbine-length.
I was shooting a suppressed AR10 yesterday and one of my neighbors was standing by the bench with his muffs on. After the first shot, he took them off. I shot again and he asked, "Tell me again what caliber this rifle is?". I told him it was a .308. He said, "Bullshitt...". Then after a pause, he pointed at the suppressor and said, "Well now I've got to get myself one of those."
