I picked up a 99 today in 22 hp.It's a takedown, does this make it a "t"?Serial #2057xx no lever boss code that I can see. It's in not too bad of shape nothing like Jeds fine rifle's but not too bad.No extra holes but the reciever bluing is worn away like it's been carried. It has a straight kinda rectangular lever.Made in Utica.Lever safety with a brass counter.Could anyone Tell me anything about this rifle Date of man. ect?I'll post some pics tommorrow.I got it for $350 with a box of ammo.

Sorry no "T", you got a "TD". Your rifle was made in 1918-19, about 17 years before the "T"s were manufactured.

Head to www.savagela.org and browse the pictures, you can get a feel for the different models that were made. The 99T was a solid-frame rifle made from 1935 thru 1940, had a very distinctive forearm shape. If you really want to know the models, read the "Misc. Good Info" thread and the top and order a copy of Murray's "The Ninety-Nine". Will list the details of all the models. Pretty good odds are that yours is an 1899H.. does it have a 20" barrel and a shotgun style buttplate? And, great buy for that price. Hard to find any 99 for $350, let alone a 22HP.
“ The Savage 99 Pocket Reference”. All models and variations of 1895’s, 1899’s and 99’s covered. Also dates, checkering, engraving.. Find at www.savagelevers.com

RF, Congrats on the mulie! A TD is any model of Savage which was made with a removable barrel, a "T" was a specific model. Most likely your 22 HP it will be an "H" model with a straight stock and a lever as you described. When you post pics we'll definately be able to tell you which model you have. You can check over at the "Savage Levers Actions of North America" site and view pics of different models in the mean time.

It does have a pretty short barrel looks to be about 20".Not sure what you mean by a shotgun style butplate. The buttplate has the Indian head on it.I'm late for a dinner at my old ladies so I'll check the thread you mentioned and post some pics tommorrow. Thanks for taking the time to reply guys. It's apprieciated by us savage rookies.Just seen your second post olgrouser and it does have the straight stock. Thanks for clearing up the T and TD thing for me.

Hey, I do it for a living.. Red, I just saw that Les only has one 1899H up on his web site. So, the link below is technically a 99F from 1920, but it should look just like your 1899H except for the refinished stock on mine. 1920 99F

Is it an original? Thanks, Mike
Does it come in Red and Black plaid? Is it wool?

You're right, good looking 90 year old piece with lots of C/C! Congrats on a great buy! Guess Trix99 is gonna have to work a little harder out there with you in the Savage lever market.

RF,
this 22HP is clearly a 1899 "H" as it falls into the serial number range of 1899s and it is a TD.
The 99 "H"s and weren't introduced till about 1923 but some hybrid-transition guns may exist.
What does the barrel address read? Is it not stamped 1899?

The guy I bought it off has another 99 in 303 for sale. It's pretty rough though drilled for a scope and swivels with a pretty big crack in the tang woodstock.I don't reload and he doesn't have any ammo for it.If I picked it up would one of the Canadian members be interested in swapping for a shooter 308 99?

There's a couple of slots cut into the threads so I'm guessing that would be interupted. If you were talking about the 303 it wasn't a takedown.Once again I'd like to thank everyone for their replies, you've been very helpful.

Yup, interupted will go on and off with 1/4 turn, full threads screw on and off totally.
