I had a CVA Scout 350L rechambered to 360 BH by Mike Bellm. I had made one trip to the range and posted the results previously.

I have bought a supply of Remington 200gr. 360 BH ammo. Recently, Walmart stocked Remington ammo loaded with 180gr. CL bullets. I bought four boxes to try. I zeroed my rifle with the 200gr. load, but as you can see, I could use the 180s without changing zero.

JPro,

I could have left it factory, but feel the 360BH is a better cartridge. I know for sure, it's better for handloading. I've also been able to buy to factory ammo cheaper than 350L hunting ammo.

I have seen it on the shelves. Have my 35's ready running cast. Amazing how poorly 35 Remington brass is supplied.

Bob,
Good shooting but to truly realize it's accuracy potential you should have Larry Racine shoot it. wink

Dinny,

Even though he's in his 80's now, I have no doubt he could out shoot me. I'd imagine he's having to much fun shooting his latest military bolt gun to want to waste time on my cheap little CVA.

I'm a little over half his age and would imagine he can out shoot me too. I hope he's enjoying his retirement.

The 350 legend can simply be rechambered to 360 buck hammer?
I thought there was a bore diameter difference.
I like The 360BH idea. Don’t know about the 350 legend.

Bore and bullet size difference.

360 uses a .358" bullet
350 Legend use a .355" bullet

If you opened the throat up on a 350 Legend, you could load and shoot .358 bullets instead of .355.

There is no problem re-chambering to 360 BH on an appropriate rifle. That would be single shots, levers or if you really wanted to go bolt rifle, you could rebarrel a Rem. 788. Maybe others I'm not aware of. And for those who've asked, no you can't rebore a 30-30. The 30-30 is wider than a 360 BH. A 30-30 case will only go halfway in to a 360 chamber.

In the case of my CVA, the extractor had to be re-cut to fit the rimmed case. No other modifications necessary. So far I've put eighty rounds through it with factory Remington ammo.

If your concern is safety, yes you'll be fine.

Don't you suppose that CVA will offer this chambering in these rifles before too long?

I asked that question and was told that they didn't have any thing planned at that time. That was about eight months ago. I wish they would. It's a perfect platform for the cartridge.

Not that it really tells you anything, but here are cases and primers from my rifle.

Those primer strikes show that Bellm got your chamber cut straight. They also show how well CVA lined up everything.

I can really dig that!! I'd like a 360 BH for here where it'd be legal on public and private. But, I'm not interested enough to spend the money on what Henry is asking for. This would be a good option.

Easy button would be to rechamber my HR 357 in either Max or to the 360 BH. But, I have some memories tied to the 357 as both boys killed their first few deer with it...

If it helps, changing the cartridge doesn't change the rifle and it gives you and your boys a more effective rifle.

Bellm charges $180.00 for the work and return shipping. He'll also cut and form 50 30-30 cases for free, if you supply the cases.

Factory Remington and Federal 180 and 200gr. ammo is available for $26-29.00 a box. At that price, I'm not worried about loading for awhile.

I get, and like, what you're selling! I am definitely gonna have to give it a consideration. Replace the red dot (perfect for kids IMO) with a smallish scope and have a rifle that is legal anywhere in IN with more reach than a slug gun...

The only advantages the 360 BHMR has over the 357 Maximum here in Indiana is a bit more range from the velocity that comes with more case capacity and the factory ammo advantage. I shot some of the 180gr Remington RNCL rounds today and they shot quite well.

I've been a huge 357 Maximum fan for years. I probably wouldn't have given it a thought if I never invested in and learned to handload. I have 2 H&Rs in 357 Max and don't ever intend to part with them.

I have a 357 Maximum reamer and a 35cal throat reamer. With the two of them I can rechamber a 357 Magnum barrel for whichever bullets you intend to shoot, cast or jacketed up to 250gr.

The Max makes a whole lot of sense, other than the factory ammo option. I do handload, so that's not a huge deal breaker. I'd be interesting to see what one could do with the 140gr Hammer bullets in 358...

What part of IN do you call home? I'm in the SW corner of the state.

Pointer,
I'm 30 minutes south of Indy. IMHO, the Maxi doesn't need botique bullets. It's modesty comes from exceptional results on game using standard cup and core bullets. The 158gr XTP-FP and 180gr XTP work very well and seem to have decent availability.
