They say everything happens for a reason. For me that reason is usually because I've made some bad decisions that I need to pay for.

It's been a few years since I've had some of that About 50 for me. It's probably aged perfectly since then.

The commodity cheese was made by Land O Lakes. You can buy it in 5lb blocks at the WalMart deli. https://www.landolakes.com/products/cheese/deli-american/Spent about 5 years wiring on a couple ND reservations and I would be gifted a block every month.

I think the original Gov't cheese was when they had a couple hundred tons of powdered cheese after ww2. They sold it to the guy making Fritos for pennies and now we have Cheetos! Saw it on the History Channel....

I remember “commodities” from the mid 50s. Had cheese, rice, powdered milk, powdered eggs, beans and peanut butter that would stick to the roof if your mouth that was difficult to dislodge, some sort of spam type meat in a round can, flour n cornmeal. All was welcome by us poor folks. That was many years ago. Came a long way since😊

The government cheese came I. The brown cardboard box with thick plastic wrapping. There was also government butter in 1# blocks….not in 1/4 sections. My grand parent would get and give to us in the 70s/80s. Good stuff!!! 😁

Dad worked in the deep dark mines of WV trying to feed us & keep us warm. The cheese & flour & powdered milk gravy kept my belly from growing to my back bone. Trying to stay warm in those company houses is a different story.
