Saw this buck last Friday not far from the house in Shenandoah national park. Obviously no hunting, deer acted healthy and was still chasing does . Is this a tumor of some type? Pictures are a bit blurry as he wouldn't stand still . Spot in question is the softball/ grapefruit sized lump rear stomach area

Growth or hernia? RZ.

Very interesting never seen anything like that. The hernia diagnosis sure makes sense though. Just like us if the abdominal wall gets ruptured the intestines can poke through and eventually get clamped or squeezed shut. I once had an umbilical hernia and my intestine was sticking out. So Thais sure sounds likely

Hernia. Killed one exactly like that about five years ago. Sack was just watery fluid.

killed some animals in the past with big nasty green puss pockets. Nothing with watery fluid. Always assumed it was some kind of wound from fighting or someone made a bad shot on it earlier in the season.

Killed a huge 8pointer years ago with that. Our DNR Regional Biologist goes to our church. Showed it to him. Umbilical hernia. It was about as big as a volleyball
