I have a m70 pre 64 Featherweight in 308 caliber. It was made in 1955. I know it’s all original, previous owner bought it new. My question is the stock is not checkered. Never been sanded or refinished. Can’t find any info on non checkered stocks being offered. Anyone know if they offered a non checkered stock?

Thanks

Have never seen a factory FWT stock without checkering. My money is on aftermarket.
Pics would be helpful.

I’ll try and get some pictures. I know it’s got the 2 holes under the buttplate.

May be sanded down and refinished too.

Ok, thanks, I figured it probably was after researching it. It’s still a nice rifle, and has the smoothest action over anything new.

Sanding is evident when one looks at the toe and heel of the stock in pic #1. The aluminum plate is ‘proud’ to the wood in both of these areas when in fact the wood should be proud to the plate.

Uncock that sob, before I biotch slap you!!! I'll bet it has a very smooth action. Looks like it's seen some use. Probably a lot of use. Especially since the stock was refinished. Why guys sand down the checkering is way beyond my level of comprehension. That rifle probably a first or second year fwt. Nice rifles that generally shoot real well.
