The picture below is not mine. It is a picture someone posted on the savage Facebook page. The rifle on the bottom is supposed to be a 250-3000 DL. How many of you have seen one before?

I have seen 0
Anything is possible but put me in skeptical column.
Actually, the very skeptical column. Especially 1965 or later.
I think Jeff (260Rem) said he recalled seeing one once...?

The 99DL was only ever catalogued in 250-3000 in 1960, which was years away from pressed checkering.
Never say never for a specially made rifle, but I'd worry somebody rebarreled a 300.

Might be missing something but just looking at Murray's book states DL was made from 1960-1973, in 1965 impressed checking & 22" barrel, does show the 250 discontinued so my read on it is that its probably correct
Educate me some more

The 99DL was made from 1960 to 1973 (some probably sold in 1974 as well). But it was only offered in 250-3000 the first year, then the 250-3000 was dropped. No Savage 99's were offered in 250-3000 from 1961 to 1969 except for the 99CD (1965 and on).

It looks to have a 24" barrel, with the barrel boss. That only occurred on the early DL correct? Anyone could replace the wood, but it would be hard to fake the barrel

The pressed checkering (1965 or so) was an immediate red flag.
I can't see anybody replacing the original cut checkered wood with pressed checkering.
Barrel address and date code boss stamping would be interesting.
If it had a 1960 boss code and serial number that might raise my eyebrows...
Edit: It would be interesting to know the barrel length as well. If it's 22" it's most likely an F barrel screwed on. If it is actually 24" that presents a conundrum with that barrel boss

A 1960 99DL in2 50-3000 would have a gold trigger, and would have a 24" barrel. Probably stamped Chicopeee Falls, but maybe Westfield.
Looking at the EG a couple above it, I'd say that bottom rifle has a 22" barrel.

Probably stamped Chicopeee Falls, but maybe Westfield. That is exactly what I was thinking too. But now I'm thinking what Chicopee 24" 250 barrel had a barrel boss? Serial number, boss code, and exact barrel length would go a long way in solving this puzzle. Not enough info to call it.

Thanks Rory, Murray's does not mention the 250-3000 being discontinued that's why I was confused, still that's hard these days.

I've seen 2, both cut checkering, both 24" barrels.
I have 1 of them. Purchased at the old KC gun show site on Front Street 27 years ago next month. Paid $425 for it. Bought a DE in 243 from the same guy for the same for $475. IIRC, a Mr. Benitez(?) from the Wichita area who always had one or two interesting Savages as the January KC show and at the March show just north of Wichita. I bought a 20" 99A in 300 Savage from him, the only 1 that I've ever seen, as well as several others that have come and gone.

plab The other one that I saw was at a gun show in Des Moines, either at the Iowa State Fairgrounds or at Adventureland, back in the early 1990s. The guy who had it had 3 interesting 99s, 2 in 243, a DL and an R, and the DL in 250-3000. I could only afford to buy one of them and bought the R. I took his card and called him a couple of weeks later, but he had sold the DLs at the Des Moines show. I do remember that he was from Mount Pleasant, IA, but don't remember the name as it was a one time deal for me.
