Question for any and all. I have 6 boxes of Remington factory 375 H&H ammo marked only as EXPRESS Rifle, 270 grain SP. The bullets are round nose, have a cannelure and boxes do not indicate Core Lokt.

Any thoughts as to bullet make? Oh, and part number is R375M1.

Thanks in advance.

I have read that in the past, Remington used Hornady bullets when they didn't want to tool up for a limited run (and they used the 139 Hornady Interlock when they were bringing out the 7mm/08). I think Layne Simpson wrote about that, once upon a time. Hornady was already making the bullets, and Remington wasn't going to load enough ammo to justify tooling up. That does make sense. I've heard the same thing about the .458s, as well. There's not a lot of call for elephant bullets in Joe Sixpack's world. I know I sure as hell don't need any.

I would not worry about it. They will work great on anything in NA, and likely much of elsewhere. I take it SP is for soft point - took it as spire point initially. Duh! smile

They will have trajectory almost identical to a 180 gr. round nose in 30-06. Umpha!

I have used both Remington CL and Hornady RN 270 grain bullets in my 375H&H and both were fine for elk. I never killed anything larger then an elk with the Hornady 270 grain bullets, but I did kill a few horses and 2 cows on our ranch and the CLs did seem to hold together better than the Hornadys. But for elk sized game and anything smaller I doubt there is going to be a lot of difference.

As a side note the Hornady RN bullet were far more accurate then most men would think. Well under MOA accuracy from both my 1st and my 2nd barrels on my 375

Not as of yet. Am contemplating selling rifle (Pre 64 M70) and all ammo/dies/ bullets sometime soon.

Can't seem to make firm decision, the cool factor seems to outweigh the common sense reaiization I'll likely never go to Africa or Kodiak.

That load was one of the most accurate in my 375. I like it a lot!

Check the case necks.
I bought 5 boxes marked express not corelokt and 39 of the rounds had split necks. Just small enough to not see on a casual glance but upon closer inspection you could literally hand pull the bullet.
I will say Remington made it right after I got a district sales representative involved.

I used my Winchester model 70 .375 H&H for elk & moose. I loaded 235 gr. BT Barmes bullets until Barnes discontinued them. I bought a box of Remington Core lokt bullets when I first bought the rifle and used them on mule deer does to try it out, never bought another box. They suck.
