Spoken like someone who’s from CA and never used one before. They’re fantastic.

They should be sold as accessories and require no background check. Prices would plummet and volume would soar. Regulating them is asinine. Exactly right. It’s about control and taxes.

So this is purely a "I wouldn't put a suppressor on my uber-refined Tikka Hunter because THE CAN is ugly" thread. Damn, I'm one that thinks a Tikka can benefit visually with a can screwed on lol... Pretty hard to make a Tikka look worse.

My clunky, ugly, cumbersome setup. #yick Nice to see the bolt on the “correct” side. Is that an AG Composites stock?

The thread reminds me of this historic photo. "Discussion of Suppressor Length and Balance (1968)"I spent 30 minutes on the phone last night with a buddy about centerfire rifle suppressors. He has a rimfire model, but is really leaning toward getting a .30cal can for big game rifles, mainly because his elementary-aged kids hate shooting most centerfire rifles due to the noise, even with double hearing protection. I steered him toward a 7" steel can in the 12-14oz and $650 range, being mainly the Harvester Evo or YHM R2. I told him that I've yet to hear of anyone buying one and regretting the purchase. As far as balance/ugly/OAL and all that stuff goes, there is certainly a wrong way to do things. I'd not dream of hanging a 7" 1lb canister off the end of a perfectly-balanced 22-24" barreled walnut/blued sporter, but that's just me. You can screw one on the end of many other platforms and have something entirely workable. This little 7-08 has seen a good bit of field time this year. With the can and 16.5" barrel it is shorter overall than a 20" Remington M7 and balances well. I shot a deer with a few weeks back and my buddy in the next blind down the lane never heard the shot. This rifle wears a similar can and has surprised most who have never experienced shooting a centerfire rifle with a suppressor. One shooter couldn't believe how the rifle barely recoiled and barely barked. Another was standing next to the shooting bench and took off his earpro. He then didn't believe it was a .308Win rifle. A good can is a game changer...... LMAO

I sure hope suppressors have improved since 2015, which was my first and only exposure to them. It sounds as if they have, which is good. I whacked a bunch of New Zealand possums and rabbits with a 'suppressed' .22 and it honestly wasn't any quieter than a regular .22 rifle. Same with a .270 Win that I fired a few times. I wasn't impressed in any way with their performance, but they could have been el cheap suppressors, for all I know. I believe there, they are or were sold as simple accessories with no regulation. Their gun laws suck ass, but they have it right with suppressors. I do not believe I have a pic of the .270, but it had a different suppressor than this grayish one on the .22.

A bolt action .22 RF with subsonic and decent suppressor is silly quiet. Most people who shoot one don't think it fired as the pin drop is the loudest noise for the shooter. If the ammo creates a supersonic crack things get louder. High Velocity .22LR in suppressed gun is sort of underwhelming, but it is sure less noisy. On Super Sonic center fire rounds the sonic crack will always be there but it happens at the location of the target. There is no boom to follow the crack and critters react very differently. Run less at the shot and in varying directions. It's real and it's really a game changer.

Good to know. I have certainly been under the impression from reading random posts about suppressors that critters act differently when the gun goes boom.
Maybe I will start looking into doing the paperwork for one.

It’s not big enough… It doesn’t need to be heavy or long but it needs room to work. There’s no room in that can for the spaces between baffles to slow down the gasses. See gedubs above or JB’s on the AR with the coyote. Even the smallish can with the coyote looks to be over double the internal volume of the one pictured with the 22lr.
