Bought this Kimber Ascent from Diamond Jim (thanks Jim!) as a lightweight walkabout rifle in 308. Now I need a scope. Thinking SWFA 6x MQ for general purposes (I have a few looking for a rifle to sit on), but am open to ideas. I live in eastern Washington where shots can be close in timber to 600 yards or more. Any recommendations? I want to keep it light, but form follows function and all that. https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbt...159/fs-nib-kimber-ascent-skyfall-308-win

Tough, rugged, predictable settings, but a 20+ ounce, 14+inches long scope on a svelte LW rifle?
A set & forget 2.5-8 L.? yeah open to scrutiny, lots of it. But is the new trend to bolt on the best tracking scope in the world no matter the weight or size take precedence over any rifle weight or handling?
Not necessarily putting it down, just wondering if that's where it's going.

Light and repeatable.
The beauty of the 6x MQ is that I’m not dicking around with the scope power when I should be shooting, and once I confirm drop/dooe, I can shoot off of the reticle and leave the knobs alone.
The downside, as you stated, is size and weight.
If someone makes a lightweight fixed 6 with a drop compensating reticle, I’m all ears.

For the weight of the 6x mil quad, I need an illuminated reticle. Heck, just in general, that reticle sucks in low light.

600 yards? 2-10 with CDS in Talley’s for quick and easy button
All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

I have several tally LW rings, they all seem to work ok for my hunting rifles, who makes a better LW ring?

Is light, repeatable with a bullet drop reticle and illumination available?

NF NX8 ? 1-8, capped or open turrets, 9" long, 17.? ozs. Yeah, ya said no variable. But it's FFP so you could set it where ya want it & forget it. Not cheap, but the rifle wasn't. Not likely to fail. Doug might swing ya a deal or wait till Euro optic has a reduced price demo.
Just another choice for me.
And damn, that's a good lookin rifle. I couldn't kill the lines or balance of such a tool.
Or, scour classifieds everywhere for a while, find discontinued NF NXS 2.5-10x32. Maybe the epitome scope for this rifle. Oh well, jmo.

V4 is by far the best game going. The 4-16x44 is affordable and has what you are looking for. Illuminated Zero stop Capped L/R Glass is good and many reticle options.

Is light, repeatable with a bullet drop reticle and illumination available? Yes, but unfortunately they we’re all bought up by hot, rich, nymphomaniacs that are into fat white middle aged men with no money.

4.5 x14 Leupold CDS. Big Stick will have a great comment about this. I can’t wait!
