So years ago I was on an elk hunt using a 7mm Imperial magnum. We were changing.locations several times and somehow I dropped/lost my ammo. You won't find that in stores! So in Alaska, at some remote gas station or something, what calibers will I always be able to find please?

And a small backup supply should be available in a separate bag.

I need to know where this gas station is.

I can remember when you could fill up your tank, grab beer, a hunting/fishing license, ammo, bait and new fancy .22 rifle without a background check.

Won’t be long and we’ll need a background check to buy gas.

To the op:

To address your questions, you likely will not find ammo many places unless the village/town holds more than a 200 to 300 population. Your only other option would be to find a kindred (generous) spirit for ammo. These do exist in rural Alaska, though not everywhere. In those places that do sell, one can still find 300 win mag, 30.06, .308, 270, and .223. If you cannot find it where you reside, you likely will not find it here most places unless you find yourself in one of the main city hubs.

Zip. You won't *always* be able to either find or buy anything at a "remote gas station or something". It's tough enough to find high grade hunting ammo or anything in exotic calibers in Anchorage. Of course, if you are blessed, you might get lucky anytime.

Yeah, but do they have an EV charging station? The new 3-Bears in Sterling does.

Why I don't know - haven't seen anyone use it to date. But they don't have shooting stuff.

Kenai 3-B was slightly ahead of Soldotna SW in getting usable powders, primers, some ammo back on the shelves after the Hoax. The possible advantage of not being a big Outside, corporate chain? SW guys told me " We don't know what we are getting until the truck gets here -it's all done through corp. headquarters. We have no say.".

All depends on your location in the state. The smaller stores will carry ammo for the hunting that occurs around there the most. Sheep areas will have more the sheep hunter cartridges and bear areas more the bear ones. But in general I’d say I’d agree with the 30-06/270/308 maybe even 30-30 if more towards villages in general and maybe even some 300wm but that’s less likely to be seen lately

Villages tend to have .22cf, 243 in stock if they can get it. Natives are either more recoil shy or smarter than the rest of us.... smile

You never know what a local village store might have. When I travel, it pays to go in and look. Sometimes a store manager would order a case of ammo because a friend wanted a box and the rest sits there for years.
