A few years back while bow hunting on stand I watched a 5 minute encounter between a small buck and a bobcat. They basically checked each other out curiously and carefully, with the buck ultimately running the bobcat off. They were literally nose to nose at one point.

I saw a ton of squirrels and chipmunks, a couple raccoons, and a possum from the stand this year, as well as a plethora of different small birds.

The land I was hunting previously I saw a lot of coyotes, occasionally a fox, the odd muskrat or weasel, and a few turkeys. I was hunting from an open top box blind out there and had a dumbass crane land in it with me sitting there one time a few seasons ago. It knocked my gun and thermos over getting out of there immediately after touching down.

Most days, I only see squirrels, chipmunks and woodpeckers. I have seen a wide variety of other animals (bears, coyote, bobcat, grouse, possum, fox, porcupine, etc.) but not nearly as often.

This year I saw lots of squirrels, some chipmunks, a rabbit & very few song birds.
I usually see lots of song birds, especially the friendly black capped chickadees, but not this year.
And no deer this year, just like last year.

Saw a pair of young bobcats chasing a cottontail yesterday afternoon.

Me & this guy were hunting the same field earlier this fall. I was looking for deer & he was probably hoping for something a bit smaller. His camouflage (and probably his hunting success) is superior to mine. So far this season, I was about to shoot a deer with a bow when a coyote appeared & spooked it. Had an orange tomcat wander past my stand. I always like it when a turkey comes by. Saw a really big redheaded woodpecker the last time I was out. I always see racoons, rabbits & squirrels.

That’s all I can think of for now.

I know it’s not Whitetail related, but while hunting in Namibia I’ve seen; Eland, Kudu, Gemsbok, Baboons, Springbok, Steenbok, Waterbuck, Spotted Hyenas, female Leopard, Black Wildebeest, Blue Wildebeest, Red Hartebeest, Lion and tons of other critters.

this was a 1st for me this year a lynx 40 feet away looking up at me by the Canadian border .

34 posts and not a single mention of a raven, one of my favorite northern birds. I do wonder how far south they are seen as I don't see them here in central Wisconsin. Hunting up north I do see a lot of red (pine) squirrels in NE WI., but have seen otter, mink, black bear, bobcat, coyote, ermine, snowshoe hare, porcupine, partridge, chickadee, blue jay, bald eagle, crow and raven. Even an occasional deer.
When I hunted NW WI. add to that a wolf, fisher and two great gray owls and lots more big deer.

" STAND " ?

All of the above plus an Emu.

Couple of oddities, this season.

Rooster pheasant - NWO supposedly has no pheasants;





In 18 seasons here, this is only the 2nd Fisher, I've seen;

Since antler restrictions went into place, and second growth got thick, I've had to go from jump-shooting bull moose to stand hunting, for ID reasons - it is usually just a perch on a log, or sometimes a tree stand.

Besides moose I have seen lynx, wolves, grouse, various raptors and other birds, marten, swans that came winging by 15 feet out from my tree stand or on small lakes, loons (all species found here), grebes and other waterfowl, beavers, muskrat, voles and shrews, squirrels, brown bear.

Throw in "stands" for caribou spotting, add black bear, wolverine, marmots, porcupine, sheep, goats, ptarmigan, and a shapely, pretty girl in short-shorts and halter top training for a race. I think she was pretty, anyway. She only stopped for 30 seconds or so - not sure if I looked at her face.....
