Folks,

Far too long to cut and paste but the url @ https://www.popularmechanics.com/science/archaeology/a45836176/mason-dixon-line-volunteers/ is an article about the search for the markers for the Mason-Dixon line. Of course I knew about the line but wasn't aware at all about the reason it was drawn and how bitter the arguments were between PA and MD on where their state line was.


One of my former co-workers lived on a farm south of Gettysburg where the line ran so I've seen one stone.

That line was re-surveyed back in 1976. The article I read back then was interesting, partly because I was a surveyor. They were impressed by the accuracy of the original work. Said that some of the stone monuments had been repurposed as steps to houses and other structures.
I'm posting this before reading the link.
