I don't know of any makers of truly bad magazines anymore. I have magazines from most makers and they all just work flawlessly in my guns.

I have three Wilson Combat 47D with baseplates I could part with if you're interested. Send me a pm if you want.

Wilson combat and Tripp research I concur. Never had Tripps, but friends in the game & in the know recommend them. I trust their reports. OTOH, I use Wilsons exclusively. YMMV

I run Check-Mate 7-round mags, with hybrid feed lips in my Springfield Armory 1911a1 45acp pistols. They have been flawless. Feed lip selection is very important for the type of bullet you plan to shoot. There are three feed lip designs: G.I. For 230 grain fmj bullets Hybrid: Feeds both FMJ and SWC Wadcutter: Feeds SWC best https://gunmagwarehouse.com/check-mate-1911-45-acp-7-round-hybrid-magazine.html

Tripp Cobra Mag, Wilson 47D & McCormick.
Tripp has a metal tab that the slide stop locks onto, where the Wilson has a plastic tab, although I have never had a Wilson fail.
Unless McCormick has recently gone to plastic followers, it's a non-issue with their metal followers.
Trips are also controlled feed if that matters to you.

Problem is, they're not quite so readily available (see the link above... out of stock). I have assembled some to fit this configuration, but it's not exactly economical to do that. Colt marked magazines (at least up until recently, as I think they have changed) are Check-Mate, with hybrid feed lips, and flat dimpled followers. A good ready-to-go magazine that works very well (AND has hybrid feed lips!) is the Mec-Gar standard 7 round magazine. I do not like the Mec-Gar 8 round magazines... but then, I don't like ANY 8 round magazines. I don't care what anyone says about them, I have never had any luck with any of them, and I avoid them all like the plague. Honestly, the "wadcutter feed lips" work fine, and this has been pretty much the standard now for most makers for 30+ years. I just like the hybrids because they feed more smoothly. Does it matter? probably not, but I like it. By the way, the Kimber marked 7 round magazines are Check-Mate, wadcutter feed lips, with the standard flat follower with the "dimple", and they work great. You don't have to spend a fortune to get a good 1911 magazine.

47 D’s are crap…… developed a crack by the feed lips. Wilson replaced it for free. Magazine was only 40 years old or so. Been running the same seven magazines for a heck of a long time. I replace the base pad, spring and follower about every two years. Wilson has pretty good sales on their magazines. We use Wilson nine, ten and forty five magazines.

Mostly use McCormick Shooting Stars. I don't shoot my 1911 A-1 that much these days, and those work just fine.
