https://www.understandingwar.org/backgrounder/ukraine-conflict-updatesKateryna Stepanenko, Karolina Hird, Christina Harward, Grace Mappes, Angelica Evans, and Frederick W. Kagan January 2, 2024 Russian President Vladimir Putin identified the West as Russia’s “enemy” and implied that Russia is fighting in Ukraine in order to defeat the West. Putin’s framing of his war in Ukraine as a Russian struggle against the West – and not Ukraine – indicates that he does not intend to negotiate in good faith with Ukraine and is setting information conditions aimed at convincing the West to betray Ukraine through negotiations. Putin may be expanding his war aims in Ukraine to include confrontation with the West in an effort to set conditions for permanent Russian military buildup and to justify high battlefield sacrifices. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stressed Ukraine’s need for urgent Western support to protect both Ukraine and the rest of Europe in an interview with the Economist published on January 1. Russian forces conducted another massive series of drone and missile strikes against deep rear areas in Ukraine between December 31 and January 2, one of which used a strike package similar to that used on December 29, and to which Ukrainian forces appear to be adapting. Western provision of air defense systems and missiles to Ukraine remains crucial for Ukraine as Russian forces will likely attempt to adapt to Ukrainian air defense capabilities. Russian officials publicly defined the goals for Russia’s 2024 chairmanship of both BRICS and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), articulating how the Kremlin may intend to use these organizations to fulfill its foreign policy objectives this year. The Norwegian government announced on January 1 that it is permitting Norwegian defense companies to sell weapons and defense-related products directly to the Ukrainian government. The Turkish government announced on January 2 that it will not allow the United Kingdom (UK) to transport two mine hunting ships to Ukraine via the Turkish Straits “as long as the war continues.” Russian society continues to reckon with the impacts of increasing anti-migrant sentiment amid Russian authorities’ ongoing efforts to systematically disenfranchise migrant communities within Russia. Russian forces made marginal confirmed advances along the Svatove-Kreminna line, northwest and southwest of Bakhmut, northwest of Avdiivka, and southwest of Donetsk City. The Russian military command may be seeking avenues to re-pardon recidivists who previously fought in the war in Ukraine in an apparent effort to maintain Russia's ability to leverage convict recruits as a manpower resource. Russian occupation authorities are restricting and likely monitoring internet communications ahead of the March 2024 presidential elections.

Following the terror attack by cuckraine on Belgorod, Russia struck military targets and infrastructure in kiev and several other cuckraine cities, including Odessa.
Patriot launchers were destroyed, and air defenses were pulled from areas surrounding kiev, because kiev itself was left with little in the way of air defense.
reddit propaganda reported that Russia attacked with 100 missiles that it had run out of. Out of the 100 missiles Russia fired, cuckraine shot down 200, but the remaining 300 hit 400 schools, 500 hospitals, 600 kindergartens, and 700 flower shops.

Ukraine will win. either by modern war or by guerrilla tactics. Ukrainians are going to bleed Russkies dry. It really depends on how you define a Ukrainian “win”. If a “win” means that Ukraine retains 100% of their territory, the territory they had before the war began in 2014, then I’d say that is extremely optimistic and completely out of the realm of reality. I don’t see any way of them getting back Odessa, Crimea or the Donbass region but one can always hope. I do agree with you in that I think that once the “special military operation” ends and some type of “peace agreement” is signed that’s when the guerrilla war begins. I see the Ukrainians mounting a bloody and endless guerrilla war. Modern armies struggle badly fighting unconventional warfare. Our military has accumulated extensive hard won lessons in guerrilla warfare and are the foremost experts in combating guerrilla tactics but it’s still an endlessly frustrating and often bloody ordeal. I really don’t think Russia will be as delicate when they’re faced with IEDs and guerrilla tactics, Russia will just level a neighborhood if they start getting much resistance there. They’re not worried about civilians or collateral damage….in fact I suspect that the Russians prefer collateral damage if they’re trying to establish the rule of fear. Ukraine will bleed Russia through the guerrilla war they mount but it most certainly will NOT be a 1 sided fight. Russia will extract a heavy price for every one of their soldiers killed. The Russians, and by extension the Ukrainians as well, are a brutal race of blood feuds and generational hatred all rolled up into a big ball of track suit wearing, vodka drinking, sexual assault loving “Caucus-Asians”. I’ve never been a fan of Russians and I’ve never met one that I thought was worth a damn, even the “good ones” aren’t so good and as I’ve said a dozen times before, there ain’t a thimble’s worth of difference between the two. What does a Ukrainian “victory” look like to you tdoyka or John Burns? Retention of ALL their territory? Pushing Russia out of everywhere except the territory that they’ve captured and held? There’s a lot of potential ways this ends and with the amount of KIA and MIA that Ukraine has suffered just about all of them could be considered a victory. The one real victory though is the one Russia accomplished with BRICS. While we’re busy slapping sanctions on Russia they’re working on a way around the Petro dollar. The USA is the clear loser in this situation and I fear history will show that THIS, BRICS, was the beginning of the end of American hegemony. This has me very concerned for the future.

The seizure of Russian assets by the US has only strengthened BRICS and led to increased de-dollarization worldwide. And who can blame a nation for wanting an alternative to the dollar after witnessing what happened to Russia's dollars.
Turkey is now courting BRICS membership. You know, Turkey, the home of the second largest armed force in NATO.

Turkey is now courting BRICS membership. You know, Turkey, the home of the second largest armed force in NATO. Exactly! If the Beijing Biden administration originally set their sights on weakening Russia with the sanctions they missed. Actually they missed by so much that they wound up shooting themselves in the process. The sanctions will eventually be either lifted or rendered totally insignificant and meaningless while BRICS will be here to stay. I don’t think people understand the impact this will have once it gains more momentum. There are a lot of countries that would like to be free from the influence and demands of the USA, they want our boot off their throats and will happily join BRICS to achieve more sovereignty. This is gonna hurt I fear. Our ability to overspend to the tune of 33 TRILLION dollars will be substantially diminished….😉

I thought I offered to bet you $1000 dollars held in escrow by a trusted party that two years hence Russia will control former Ukraine territory. Sorry that we need a contract and money in escrow but I don't know that you would pay. Ukraine's leaders did a stupid thing by acting as proxy to help USA/NATO/CENTRAL BANKS take down Russia.

https://www.understandingwar.org/backgrounder/ukraine-conflict-updatesKarolina Hird, Christina Harward, Grace Mappes, Angelica Evans, George Barros, and Frederick W. Kagan January 3, 2024 Russia and Ukraine conducted a prisoner of war (POW) exchange on January 3 in what was the largest POW exchange of the war to date and the first official POW exchange since August 2023. Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated on January 3 that Ukraine plans to increase its defense industrial base (DIB) output six-fold in 2024. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba announced on January 3 that the NATO-Ukraine Council (NUC) will hold an emergency meeting in response to Russia’s recent mass air strikes against Ukraine. NATO member states continue initiatives to support Ukrainian operations in the air domain. Kremlin-affiliated mouthpieces may be setting information conditions to blame the West for a potential future conflict in the Arctic. Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev characterized Russia as Kazakhstan’s “main partner and ally” in an interview published on January 3 despite recent efforts to distance Kazakhstan from Russia. Russian forces made confirmed advances near Avdiivka and Donetsk City as positional engagements continued along the entire line of contact. The Donetsk People’s Republic’s (DNR) “Vostok” Battalion stated on January 3 that the unit will continue to operate subordinated to Rosgvardia and will not be impacted by the Russian military’s reported dissolution of the “Kaskad” operational combat tactical formation of the DNR’s Internal Affairs Ministry (MVD). Russian authorities continue efforts to integrate occupied Ukraine into Russia using infrastructure projects and social outreach programs.
