help me decide on a 22 Bolt action to buy
$1000 max....hopefully my last really good 22
new or very good used
sporter style/weight but accurate enough for gopher head shots or informal silhouette at the club
classy classic accurate to hang onto. No synthetic stocks for this one
something unique/interesting about it....T-bolt? mannlicher? set triggers?
honestly havent been overly impressed with last couple Anshutz i had
Any real first hand experience with new T-bolts? ive heard not great things about their triggers

CZ457 LUX sounds like it would fit the bill. Or maybe an American if you don't fancy the iron sites.

Those CZ457’s are nice rifles. That’s what I would have bought, if a Winchester 52 wouldn’t have fallen in my lap.

That one is pretty thick. I believe the op is looking for the trimmer sporter model. I've had my eye on one of the lighter sporter models myself. The CZ457 American. They are beautiful rifles. I've probably bought one about 3 or 4 times now. Last time (2 times now, at 2 different shops) my girlfriend was with me, when I was looking at one, or I would have probably bought one. I believe they were $600.00 new at a shop near by, and another at a shop 170 miles away. The wood was awesome on both rifles. Nice grain, and nice dark wood, with some great checkering.

I've seen these same rifles for sale on gunsinternational for $518.00..

The funny/not so funny thing is I actually bought a set of rings for a CZ a month ago, because I knew I'd be buying one pretty soon.

I was just going to mention the 457 American, I personally like the lines better than the LUX, but that is just me.

I have always found the above pictured varmint model most appealing.

I thought the Steyr rimfires that came out in a run a few years back were really nice looking. I have no idea how they shot. I'll probably buy one if they do another run for the US. If they were accurate, they'd seem to fit the bill for the OP.

New- CZ457 in whichever configuration you prefer. I began with a Varmint MTR, then got tired of the weight and bulk and found a Premium barrel and stock on GB for $400, then sold the MTR parts locally for $400. I think the Premium barrel is just as accurate as the MTR was; accurate enough anyway. To mount most scopes, the ones with irons require you to remove the leaf from the rear as ingwe did. I went with an old Burris Mini 6x AO, which is plenty of scope for my use and very light.

Used- Not sure what you can find in this crazy market for a grand. I’ve owned and futzed around with several 77/22s, but the CZs seem to outshoot them out of the box without shimming bolt-heads, bedding, or fooling with triggers. I do regret letting a SS RSI go, because it was very cute and a rare bird, just not a great shooter. You might get lucky and find a used Annie or Sako, but it will take some searching and luck. CZs are everywhere. Older CZs are great shooters too, but for my taste require replacing the trigger guard with a nicer one like a DIP. The 457 is fine as-is, and the triggers are better as-is too.

Those do look good if you favor the Yurrupean vibe. Oughta shoot too, but the reviews I saw used small samplings of mostly mediocre ammo, so essentially were useless.

One that is definitely off my list is the new Springfield made in Turkey. Nice wood, but every review I’ve seen has shown pretty crappy accuracy. Hell, one of ‘em at least should’ve done better, even by accident.

My CZ 452 was a rather good shooter for a "sporter" style rifle. I'd find one used if I wanted to go back to wood and blued.

Hands down the CZ 452,455 or 457. Take the rest of your money and get some good glass. JMOP

Trigger options for CZ?

Varmint options are a bit long and heavy for me, I've got a 10lb martini that shoots little bitty bug groups but isn't terribly mobile!
Anyone shooting the new CZ Royale not sure what I think about the relatively long fore-end

Timney now makes one, but the Jard beats it in pull weight reduction.
