Anyone working with ELD 178 grain in 308 win. I am looking for a good starting place for a target load.

I tried fooling with it briefly in a model 70 sporting rifle, someone gifted me a box of bullets. Using old data I had from 173 gr GI match, I found a node for my rifle at 42.3 gr of 4064 (no indications of pressure)...but I was concerned, the holes on target looked a little hinky...so I then fired a few into clean cardboard...sure enough, some of the entry holes in the cardboard at 100 yds looked a little bit oval. So I wondered if the 1 in 12 twist was adequate for the bullet. Anyhow, I soon lost interest in burning more components, back to the good old reliable 168 SMK.

Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

My experience was much like flintlockes above, and lose as crap. I ditched it in the .308, but have good loads with it in my .30-06 and .300 WSM.
