Good article by Michael Higgens --- living the highlife in Jamacia while commenting that he understands that Canadians are hurting.

From the article:

"F. Scott Fitzgerald captured the difference succinctly in his 1926 essay, “The Rich Boy.”

“Let me tell you about the very rich. They are different from you and me. They possess and enjoy early, and it does something to them, makes them soft where we are hard, and cynical where we are trustful, in a way that, unless you were born rich, it is very difficult to understand. They think, deep in their hearts, that they are better than we are because we had to discover the compensations and refuges of life for ourselves,” wrote Fitzgerald."

Then there is the — let’s be generous here — obfuscation surrounding the trip. Before Trudeau, his wife, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, and their children departed, the Prime Minister’s Office assured the public that the family would cover the cost of the trip. Only after the National Post started making inquiries did the PMO make a “clarification.” The family were staying “at no cost at a location owned by family friends,” the PMO finally admitted.

Personally I hope someday he swallows that silver spoon and it gets caught sideways in his large intestine just above Jagmeets head.

Michael Higgins: Trudeau feels your pain — while lounging in the lap of luxury
After acknowledging 'Canadians are facing tough times,' the PM jetted away to a resort that costs more for 9 days than most earn in a year

Author of the article:Michael Higgins
Published Jan 05, 2024 •

Justin Trudeau and his family — plus an assorted cadre of staff and bodyguards — travelled to Jamaica recently to stay at a luxurious resort owned by Peter Green, who also happens to be a donor to the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation.

“I understand how tough it is right now” for Canadians, said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau only days before leaving for a free Jamaican vacation at a $9,300-per-night resort.

The prime minister, in an interview with the CBC, sympathized with people who were having trouble buying groceries and paying bills and said he hoped young people could still “aspire” to buy a home. “Canadians are facing tough times,” he said. “But we are doing what we always do as Canadians: we roll up our sleeves.”

He then jetted off to the Caribbean to stay at a villa that is fully staffed by “butlers, cook, gardener, housekeeper/laundress,” according to the resort’s website. (Note: butlers, plural.)

It’s not that prime ministers don’t deserve vacations, even nice ones. The problem is that Trudeau pretends to empathize with the difficulties of ordinary Canadians when he is clearly out of touch with them.

It would be nice to have friends willing to put you up for free for nine nights at a resort that would have cost an ordinary person $84,000 — more than the average Canadian makes in a year — but Trudeau should not be shocked if he is then called out for being an entitled elitist and a hypocrite.

Where should he vacation, his supporters might cry? Well, if he truly cared about Canadians and their plight, he might show solidarity by vacationing in this country. How about spending some cash on the ski hills out West? How about putting money back into the coffers of Canadian companies?

No one truly expects Trudeau to start acting like an ordinary Canadian. He’s not about to catch a late-night Sunwing flight to Jamaica, or to stay at a roadside motel. But for all of Trudeau’s talk about understanding Canadians, empathizing with them and working to help them, he lives in a bubble created by wealth.

They think, deep in their hearts, that they are better than we are because we had to discover the compensations and refuges of life for ourselves,” wrote Fitzgerald.

Trudeau doesn’t even make any effort to practise solidarity or understanding. Last month, Argentinian President Javier Milei travelled commercial and engaged with other passengers. Other world leaders, including former British prime minister Boris Johnson and Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, have also experienced flying with the hoi polloi.

Would Trudeau even know how to get to economy class? He doesn’t have to since he flies aboard a government jet.

“As per long-standing government policy and for security reasons, the prime minister must travel on government aircraft, whether he is on official or personal business,” said the Department of National Defence in answering a question about Trudeau’s last Jamaican vacation a year ago.

(That trip cost taxpayers $160,000 for security and other reasons. His previous trip to Costa Rica cost taxpayers $200,000. If this “free” trip costs a similar amount then the prime minister’s last three vacations will have cost taxpayers about $500,000.)

Clearly, other world leaders don’t feel that they “must” travel in such luxury. If Trudeau wanted to change government policy, he could.

That isn’t a clarification, it’s a complete 180-degree turn.

It was revealed that the Trudeaus were staying at Frankfort villa, a secluded beachfront enclave that is part of the Prospect Estate resort. “When only the very best will do, Frankfort is our answer,” proclaims the resort’s website.

The six-bedroom, 17th-century, 5,000-square-foot house is owned by the family of businessman Peter Green, which has donated in the past to the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation.

Meanwhile, food banks in Canada are recording record numbers of people visiting them as families go hungry. Last March, the latest data available, almost two-million Canadians visited a food bank, an increase of 32.1 per cent from March 2022 and a whooping 78.5 per cent rise from March 2019.

“With the cost of food, rent, gas and other essentials at a 30-year high, families across Canada are struggling. Food banks are being stretched to their limits — just as families need them more than ever,” wrote Food Banks Canada in a plea for Christmas donations.

Trudeau may feel Canadians’ pain but in Jamaica he had the benefit of doing so while lounging in a “luxurious swimming pool” or in the “eight-person hot tub” while overlooking “a spectacular three hundred foot, powdery white sand beach, widely hailed as the best stretch of private beach in Jamaica,” before returning to “perhaps the most desirable north coast villa in Jamaica.”

Yep, these are tough times indeed.

Is this to be Justin’s “let them eat cake” moment? I surely hope so. Remember in 2015 when he campaigned stating he was a working class stiff (teacher). Nothing could have been further from the truth, but still a majority of Canadians voted for him and he received a majority government. I hope that Canadians now see what he truly stands for.

Couple things......Trudeau can only get away with his agenda because of the NDP, and a lesser Bloc support.
The other thing......other than the obvious reasons..........I have no idea why anyone can be involved in any election, not being born here in this Country, also, a dual Citizen is bullshyte too. As an example, someone who is dual with Israel, or perhaps Ukraine, in a case like that its too easy to be manipulated, or if they get caught too easy to become victims.

Too many MP's, MLA's in a postion of influence, or they are vulnerable to threats and bribes by foreigners, on all sides.

White Canadians dont want the jobs, seems they prefer handouts such as UBI. This is why our Country has been flooded with dope.

If people used their time and money more wisely they could afford food, they like to free up their money for booze and dope when there is a food bank and a myriad of handouts. One day people will realize (hopefully) that their government has corralled them into being dependent upon them, spoiling their ingenuity and there individual freedom.

I don't believe that Canadian don't want those jobs. There have always been lots of students working at that store.
What I do believe is that Superstore is getting subsidy to hire the immigrants. I also believe that due to cultural differences in standard of cleanliness. I will not shop in the deli.

Hugh;
Top of the morning to you sir, I hope you're all warm, well and dry on this frosty, frigid morning where we in the Canadian Banana Belt are at -27° C.

Where does one begin to articulate one's true feelings of frustration at yet another slap in our collective faces by a trust fund brat with enough displays of narcissism that it's doubtful he feels any thing for any one other than himself.

The initial reports from the gov stated that the vacation had been cleared by the Ethics Commissioner, which would be fine if said EC did that, but they don't and truly can't if one thinks about it.

Then we see that PM Socks' separated wife Sophie, herself a classic example of being in love with one's self, is there as well so that's just an extra spicy twist.

We have Peter Green who it appears has paid for this out of the goodness of his heart, since he was a friend of PE Trudeau? Right....

Link on who Peter Green is.

https://nationalpost.com/news/who-i...paid-for-trudeaus-luxury-trip-to-jamaica

Obviously the sitting PM goes nowhere without a security detail and the cost of that isn't included in the price - there's no chance all the RCMP are also in the same house with PM Shiny Pony, his estranged wife and the kids.

We're not told what the limo rental might be either, but will note that there was a video circulated with somewhere north of 20 SUVs in a row running the Canadian delegation around some Caribbean destination, all this at the same time as we're told we can't drive a pickup truck of course.

But to the thread title, no sir, I do not believe he has the capacity, much less the inclination to feel what an "average Canadian" feels. He's better than that as he's indicated with his words and his actions for his entire life.

All the best to you this year nonetheless Hugh, let's continue working towards a fix. It's the least we can do for our kids and grandkids.

Dwayne

I suspect that Canadian Libs, like ours down here, are fine with his behavior and attitudes. They see themselves in his place, just as American Libs were fine with the crimes and despicable morals of the Clintons. In their minds, the leaders are entitled to whatever they can grab, whatever they do. Just perks of the job…for Liberals anyway.

Dwayne, all the best to you as well. This morning when I got up at 7 we were sitting at a balmy -37 C with a slight breeze. We are now at a down right toasty -28 mid afternoon. It was supposed to warm up on Monday and now this is delayed to later in the week.

I am hopefully Trudeau and the Liberal party gets sent packing at the next election but concerned on another coalition of weasels. Liberals / NDP and Bloc. Hopefully the polls that are currently showing a conservative majority stay that way.

I fully suspect the story telling and lies from the Liberals will be starting up in the spring. Trudeau is the classic silver spoon trust fund leader completely out of touch with the ordinary person. Perhaps not as crooked as Biden but close.

His lack of understanding of the need for small businesses and less government control is shocking as is his vendictiveness to people or provinces that do not bow to his whims.

This is a short interesting read on the loss of entrepreneurship investment in Canada

https://www.fraserinstitute.org/art...-and-business-investment-hurting-economy

Canada has a huge hole to climb out of. The last time a Trudeau made a hole this size Alberta was there with the Oil Sands projects. This time to get out of this mess we will need all provinces pulling together and unfortunately with what has been happpening I do not see Quebec or BC as being part of the big picture solution.

Looks like there is some mud that will be sticking to the silver spoon trust fund baby over his recent paid for by others vacation. Even if Trudeau got approval I do not understand how something of this size is not a taxable benefit that he needs to address.

When MPs from the House of Commons ethics committee meet on Wednesday morning, they will have some important questions that need answering: What did the prime minister tell the ethics commissioner about his trip to Jamaica and does taking an $84,000 luxury vacation fit within the rules of Parliament?

This isn’t about Justin Trudeau taking a vacation, everyone is entitled to one of those. It’s not even about how luxurious his trip was; it’s about whether Trudeau followed the rules.

The vacation wouldn’t even be a story if Trudeau’s office hadn’t put out more than one conflicting statement on the matter.

In December, before Trudeau and his family left on the trip, the Prime Minister’s Office put out a statement saying that Trudeau would be paying for his own accommodations on the trip. In January, just before his return, his office put out another statement saying that Trudeau had stayed “at no cost at a location owned by family friends.”

It’s believed Prime Minister Justin Trudeau vacationed at this luxurious beachfront villa dubbed the Frankfort at Prospect Estate in Jamaica, a former slave plantation, from Dec. 26, 2023, to Jan. 4, 2024. Prospect Estate Jamaica
There is a world of difference between those two statements and the logical question would be: Which version did Trudeau tell the ethics commissioner? Because as any Liberal will tell you, this trip was “pre-cleared” by the ethics commissioner, which of course would lead any normal person to think that it was within the rules.

Except, the ethics commissioner’s office said in a statement last week that they don’t “pre-clear” vacations.

“To clarify, the office does not approve or ‘clear’ regulatees’ vacations. The office has a role only in ensuring that the gift provisions of the act and code are observed,” spokesperson Jocelyne Brisebois said when asked for clarification on Trudeau’s trip.

LILLEY: Trudeau's office won't answer questions on $84,000 vacation

It's believed Prime Minister Justin Trudeau vacationed at this luxurious beachfront villa dubbed the Frankfort at Prospect Estate in Jamaica, a former slave plantation, from Dec. 26, 2023, to Jan. 4, 2024.
Conservatives call for ethics probe into Trudeau’s free Jamaican holiday stay

She then provided a link to the guidance around accepting gifts from friends and family. One thing that the guidance makes clear is that the friend or relative must pay for the gift personally and it’s not an open season on gifts from family and friends.

It seems like an $84,000 gift to a family friend you only see once in a while wouldn’t really meet the criteria set out for what is acceptable.

“This $84,000 gift that the prime minister received is the issue here,” Conservative MP Michael Barrett told the Sun. “It’s not that he took a vacation, it’s that he took $84,000 in value in the form of a vacation and claimed it was a gift from a friend.”

Barrett pointed out that Trudeau’s gift of a vacation is worth much more than the average Canadian median income.

As for just staying with a friend, Prospect Estate, the former slave plantation that he stayed at, rents out these villas for a pretty penny. Over the Christmas season, the Frankfort villa that he stayed at goes for about $9,300 per night — or about $84,000 over the nine nights he was there.

Barrett said that if the hotel simply waived the fees, that would be a gift from a corporation, which would not be allowed under the act. He questioned whether Trudeau’s friend paid for the stay and, if so, whether that was acceptable.

“Is it ever acceptable for a sitting prime minister to accept $84,000? Would this be a different conversation if this was $84,000 in cash in a brown envelope, is that OK for a prime minister to accept? I would say no,” Barrett said.

The Trudeau Liberals are trying to dismiss this by saying the ethics commissioner pre-cleared it, something the office denies. They are trying to dismiss this by pretending it’s all fine because it was a gift from a friend.

Nothing about this trip seems to have followed the rules, which is why Canadians deserve more answers.

Always wondered does he even pay for his own groceries.....no wonder he thinks money means nothing because he spends little of his own to pay anything, his money just accrues in his personal accounts and 'investments'...scandal follows him everywhere, totally aloof to everything outside of his perspective.

Don't worry.. deficit will pay for itself ....the bigger the better

Heard that Quebec and Montreal are "At their Breaking Point" with immigrants flooding in.

When I left Montreal in 1987, Montreal was already on a downward spiral and rapidly turning into a chithole, can only imagine how bad it is now.

Great job Mr. Trudeau

If Biden wins the next election, you will be heading down the same path our politicians put us on.

I am hoping NOT for your guy's sake!
