Looking for a miracle. Any chance anyone has any 7mm Dakota brass they want to sell. I'm down to desperation. Any help locating any amount would be GREATLY appreciated.

I picked up a couple of boxes of .300 Dakota loaded ammunition from Hendershot's back in Sept 2022. At the time, they offered to sell me just the brass. They currently offer ammunition, and possibly just brass (?), for the 7mm Dakota as well. It won't be cheap (looks like the price/box has gone up another $20 or so since then)!

I went ahead and ordered their Extreme Custom Ammunition instead of just the brass (my rifle seems to prefer 180 gr Accubonds, and, at the time, I couldn't find them either, let alone a steady supply of primers, but I was able to order their custom ammunition with Accubonds).

I figured worst case scenario was that their ammunition wouldn't shoot well through my rifle (a good probability, but I haven't yet shot any of it), in which case I could just pull the bullets, dump the powder, and fill the case with my "pet load" powder, working back up to a charge that duplicates performance from brass I'm currently using.

Thanks for the reply. I have used Hendershot in the past and their loaded ammo shot well.

I'm done with the Dakota. Just left my gunsmith and we're going to re-chamber to 7 PRC and move on.

This is a 1999 MRC action with a Shilen barrel and should do just fine withe the PRC.

These days it`s smart to stay with cartridges that have a bit of history, like about 50 yrs worth.

Do you know the twist rate on your Shilen barrel?

Rim diameter on most Dakota cartridges is .545," vs .532" for the PRCs. Will the claw extractor on your bolt need to be changed out, or will it grab those smaller PRC cases OK? Just curious.

I tend to agree, but, lately, I've found that decent brass for oldies like 6mm Rem, 7x57, and even .270 Win (!) has been difficult to come by, despite their history.

Gunsmith says we're fine with claw extractor. That was my first question. Shilen is 1-9. It shot 160's great. Going to start with 168 Bergers. then try 175's. That will probably be my limit. Thank GOD this barrel is not finicky at all. Give it some RL 22 and it's happy.
I was just sick of hunting brass for the Dakota.
While barrel is off may thread muzzle for EC tuner brake. Still thinking about that though. Anyone here have any experience with the EC tuner brake?

Wise choice.
