I'm converting a Ruger 77/22 LR to 77/22 magnum and need to find a gunsmith that has experience with this conversion to machine a bolt for me. It's a pretty simple process and some actually do it with a Dremel motor and grinding wheel. I'd rather find someone with the right equipment to do it. The pics show both 22LR and 22Mag bolts and what is needed is to lengthen the groove in the bolt. Top bolt is 22LR and bottom bolt is 22Mag. Any takers?

I'm having a hard time seeing the difference between the bolts in the picture but it sounds like a straightforward job in the mill. Edit to add, now I see it. That's a fairly simple job I could do if you'd like.

I'm wondering if you'll have to open the bolt face and relocate the firing pin as well?
I suspect it's not an easy switch but I'm curious to hear how it progresses!

I suspect it's not an easy switch but I'm curious to hear how it progresses! Bolt face is exactly the same in both bolts. Just the groove needs to be lengthened. check out this article: https://www.rimfirecentral.com/threads/77-22-lr-77-22-magnum-stocks-receivers-and-bolts.127843/

If you do that to the bolt, will it still work on a 22LR?
I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects
I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....

It will still work for 22LR but you would have to reinstall the bottom metal and switch barrels. It would work for 17 HMR with the mag bottom metal and a 17 barrel also.

AZmark: I simply HAVE to ask - WHY? I think your monies would be MUCH better spent/invested buying a separate Rifle in 22 Magnum! Thats what I did. And when it comes time for you to resell that "modified" Rifle (and you will) your recouped monies would be enhanced. Either way best of luck to you in obtaining a 22 Magnum. Hey VG, I've looked into that and just didn't like any of the current rifles available. Considered a CZ but hate the magazine extending out the bottom, tried a Ruger American and just didn't like it either. Besides I've got 4 other 22lr rifles so since its a pretty easy conversion and can be reversed if I want, I decided to go this route.
Besides, since when does logic prevail when we're doing stuff with our guns?
Sell? Probably not, got 2 sons and 3 grandsons, 1 granddaughter that all love to shoot and hunt, they will take most of what I've got when its time.

There is a guy on rimfire central that may have what you need. It’s an old thread I just read. He goes by Super Dave. The part you need is called the breach block. I seen a thread where he offered to trade 22 to mag. Might be worth a look.
