Hi,
I only checked in 1 place but they quoted me $250-300 to mill the slide for a red dot (the guy who does it wasn't there so couldn't give me an exact cost). That seems high, what have you guys paid for this service? Is $250 in the ballpark?

Thanks,
kstockfo

Gun Cuts did my Guardian slide cut. $100 bucks. I see their prices have gone up $5. Did a great job and turn-around was just over 2 weeks. Nice thing was, they are local to me, only an hour away so no shipping was involved.

I don't know how locked in you are in milling your slide, but I'm a Bullseye pistol competitor and most if not all of us use a scope base on top of our 1911 slides to mount our dots. Certainly a much cheaper option, just need 4 holes drilled and tapped. I have used this one on several of mine. https://clarkcustomguns.com/product/clark-custom-1911-scope-base/

Huntsman,

Looks Great

Got a picture of the other side of your 1911?

What footprint is your red dot? RMR?

Thanks,

Jerry

Then, there’s the Evolution Gun Works red dot mount option, for about fifty bucks:

While it’s a smidge taller than a dedicated slide alteration, easy reversion back to the original iron sights remains available.

Is that mount a friction fit in the dovetail or does it use a set screw? The EGW instructions indicate they use both methods but are not specific about which model firearm or dovetail cut uses them. From their website for 1911 mounts:

- Remove the rear sight*
- Install the EGW Sight Mount in the dovetail
- Tighten set screw (if applicable)

How do you like that mount, has it been stable over time? Assuming it is a friction fit in the dovetail, did it slide in easily enough or have to be pounded in?

I've looked at their various dovetail mounts but was hesitant about their long term stability.

Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery.

Snug friction fit - easy plastic hammer installation. Provided set screw was tightened, though likely unnecessary. Got ‘em on three pistols already, anticipate a fourth for a 10mm. Don’t have lots of rounds through them, yet. But, don’t anticipate any durability or stability issues whatsoever.

I would much prefer this. A perfectly good slide doesn’t get chewed up.

I have an EGW on my Dan Wesson with the Holosun. Havent shot it a ton with it on, but have carried it on a few hunts and killed a couple of javelina with it. So far so good.

I would go the EGR method first. No need to remove metal from the slide

Are there good options for replacement slides pre cut? How big a deal is "fitting" a new slide? Thinking 1911 and Glock.
