Looking for a good large paddle for 1911 that holds the weapon securely. Looking for a starting point. TIA

Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.

If you're into Kydex, these would have my vote, I have both. The Vedder paddle is especially nice. Blade-techVedder

I use a Safariland GLS paddle holster with a retention lock. It comes with a belt loop and paddle to set up either way. The lock is pretty unobtrusive and releases as you grasp the grip.

I’ve had two different paddle holsters and sold both of them. They were both leather, a 1791 and a Azula. They were nice but they just didn’t hold the pistol close enough to the body for me.

Garrett- leather lined kydex.
It's good to lead - it's better to lead by example.

Galco makes a good looking paddle holster.
No personal experience with them, but have several other Galco holsters that are top quality.
They make the one used in the Longmire TV series. "Walt" seems to like it for his 1911!

Virgil B. The kydex version is a personal favorite. It holds my favorite woods bumming 1911A1 with a decadent level of comfort. The El Paso Saddlery 1 3/4" belt helps most biggly.

Some manufacturers make the "paddle" too small to handle the weight of a 1911. My favorite paddle has been a Fobus - big paddle that is lined with soft rubber, Kydex and excellent retention.
